I was expecting 2 x $2 million so this is right in line with expectations. Still surprised Bennett didn't sign his qualifying offer that would have given him arbitration rights after the season.
I expect this to be Bennett's breakout season so this deal will be a steal a month into it, and a complete bargain in year two.
Bring in Jagr!

All of this great work and I still get the sense that people will be disappointed if Jagr isn't at camp.

Remember the Backlund situation? One year 1.75 IIRC. The rest is history.

Treliving must be one helluva poker player because he's almost never the one to fold first. Guy is a master at signing RFAs to sweetheart deals. He must have incriminating pictures of them or something. Very impressed with this signing and Ferland's signing. Hopefully Sam out plays this contract and is able to set himself up for a fair and lucrative deal the next time around.

[Confirmed with link] Bennett signed - 2 years/1.95 AAV
The recent eclipse was actually Treliving drawing light and energy from the sun to augment his arcane powers for the purposes of this signing, and that of Jagr's as well.

I cant explain it, but there seems to be a funny vibe in the air that a Jagr deal is coming.
It was interesting on a couple of media hits this week Treliving never really tried to quash the Jagr rumours - just said no comment and made the long hair joke.

Phenomenal bridge deal. Absolutely phenomenal. This is why you WAIT to get the right deal done, you don't engage certain CP members panic mode and sign him ''just to get a deal done''.
Burke hired a god damn wizard.

There's a pretty big hype train backing it up. Flames Reddit has been warming to the idea ever since the Elliotte Friedman interview and the hype really kicked off after the first JMarshyBosco tweet.
Every one of the parties alleged to be involved has been extremely "no comment" about the whole affair too, and that could certainly fit a scenario where both sides are deeply entrenched in contract negotiations and playing with cards close to their chests. Would explain Jagr's "poker" comments in the Czech interview, and why we're getting so many "no comments" out of a GM that is a master of talking without saying anything.
