Where did you find this tenderloin? That is a stupidly low price. I make a fair bit of schnitzel for dinner and use tenderloin and I would stock my freezer at that price.

I didn't actually buy 300lbs, but it was an obscenely low price for 15lbs or something.

Still seems like a decent price. I usually pay around $4 to $5 per kg for tenderloin. When it is around $4 I stock up.

Good ingredients do matter. However, this whole sustainable, rain forest alliance, non-GMO, organic, fair trade mumbo jumbo is all marketing non-sense created to make food a luxury item. I just picked up some great produce from the farmers market that tastes amazing, and was price comparable to Co-op. Just go to the smaller less trendy Farmer's markets, not the ones that profit off luxury food branding.

Pork is a fantastic meat. Really underrated and with the demand for bacon these days the rest of the animal is dirt cheap.

Dude, be cool. Let's try to keep it that way.
Yeah, bacon is pretty rad. Nothing beats bacon. Bacon 4 life.

This won't cause the same kind of crapstorm since it isn't remotely as visible, but A&W stupidly decided to follow Earl's example and piss all over Canadian ranchers yesterday in response to a tweet Brad Wall made over two weeks ago:
https://twitter.com/AWCanada/status/905099415194443777
How does a PR manager even allow that message to go out?

What kind of golden cows are they sourcing then? Disappointing A&W would go that route. They got extremely lucky this hasn't caught wind like Earls did.

Slow day for Mr. Wall to be tweeting about that? Or was there another inciting incident?

Man...they're going to have to keep a tighter leash on their twitter guy.

I think this will be bigger than Earls. Earls is barely known outside of Alberta. A&W is a national franchise, give it time, they only responded yesterday and the backlash seems pretty big.
What an idiotic tweet. What were they thinking?

I think the A&W beef standard is the ability to absorb the most amount of salt possible.

Am I the only one who doesn't see an issue with what A&W tweeted? Or is this just more outrage for the sake of it?

I'd be quite interested to see the breakdown of people who value Canadian beef vs. people who value hormone/antibiotic-free beef. A&W has been offending Canadian beef producers for a few years now and they don't seem to be slowing down. They must have some numbers to back that decision up. They don't really have any competition in that space as far as fast food places go.

A lot of people are just yelling for the sake of it, but there's also a lot of farmers who work very hard to follow ethical guidelines only to have A&W essentially say the product they're producing is poison. I'm not angry about it, but I understand how some could be.

My beef with A&W is that their entire campaign is BS. A lot of what they advertise has never been proven to be safer or tastier for consumers. They are just preying on the food safety fears of consumers.
Half the #### they preach is probably fake anyway. It probably comes down to them getting cheaper grade F meat from some massive US supplier that tortures their animals and puts 30% racoon anus into the mixture anyway. And they probably use all the same steroids and hormones that they claim not to.

For reasons I don't really understand, beef is among a special category of products that all decent Canadians are expected to be patriotic and protectionist about. You don't hear people complain if the cement used in a Calgary interchange is sourced from Idaho instead of Quebec.

I know someone who used to work in the meat industry, and he's always said that of the fast food chains that operate in Canada, A&W has the highest standards for their beef. That may be damning with faint praise, but I don't see why A&W wouldn't use that fact in its marketing and branding.

Ok but my understanding of this situations is that, just like Earls, the A&W issue with Canadian beef isn't the quality.
It is purely based on hormones and steroids. Perhaps I'm just uneducated on this but my understanding is that not all hormones and steroids are evil and cause mutant children or cancer or whatever. Much of it is to make the beef more bacteria resistant and such.
If A&W could convince me that the US hormone and steroid free meat that they use is tangibly better than the Canadian stuff, sure go ahead and choose the best product available. At present, I have no reason or information to believe that is the case.

Probably because its likely marginal, difficult to quantify and....subject to taste.
