It really shouldn't matter...anything over 2.5-3M would be an overpay for Bennett...Flames should just assume that amount and move forward
If Sam wants more than that honestly he can pound sand and it wouldn't be anyone's fault but his own

Assuming the Flames want 3 years or more, there's no way it's going to be for less than 3M.

I agree 100%. 26 points is pathetic...and then you see the -16... 
To say Bennett had a bad year is an understatement. He had a terrible year and should be compensated accordingly.
Yakupov was also drafted #1 overall....I'm not comparing Bennett to YakCity but with his current performance, it's very dangerous to be offering this kid any sort of term length on the contract.
