I played Star Realms first, and like Ascension more. AI is better - way more cards and combos to try. People want me to try Magic, but it seems too addictive - I would want to collect too many cards.
Race For The Galaxy gets played a lot by me too. The Hard AI is near impossible to beat. Pathfinder Adventures has new Goblin scenarios.
I could go on for hours about Magic the Gathering. It is by far my favourite game
Magic Duels is a great place to learn while spending no money. Unfortunately they are ending support soon, but it'll still serve as a good version to learn the basics with.
If you ever want a demo/teaching session using paper cards, hit me up.
I'm actually quite surprised that there isn't a subset of CPers that organize to play Magic...

Didn't realize that (since I don't have the right OS to play it anymore). Too bad it didn't live up to its potential to be perpetual.
Alternatively you could snag Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012-2014 during a sale. The majority of those titles focus on using mostly pre-built decks though. Still fun games especially 2013.
That's a strange a list, quite a few game missing that BGGeek has hyping about, but it's good to hear about the a titles I haven't heard of. Founders of Gloomhaven does look awesome
I've heard good things about Photosynthesis and Whistle Stop.
Played Century: Spice Road 4 times on Wednesday night. Great little game with a lot of hidden depth. In a 4-player game if you aren't paying attention, things can get out of hand quick.
Sneak peak at Pandemic Legacy Season 2. Contain some spoilers on the starting mission (weird giving spoiler warnings for a board game). Pretty excited about this one.
Have you tried Descent: journeys in the dark 2nd ed.? It's really fun and you can play it GM style with the regular campaign in the core box or full co-op with the free app.

No I have not . I was drawn to a game that is geared to solo play. If GM style means solo option I will give it a look.
After about 2 nights, roughly 4 hours in total, my friends and I have gotten through the first 4 scenarios of the Settlers Explorers and Pirates expansion. It's incredible the amount of depth this adds. Almost afraid to look forward to the Knights one in the future.

Thanks
GM means Game Master, so the one versus many style. But the app makes it co-op/solo by taking over the role of GM.
It's a different dynamic than playing against a person, but still challenging. You still move the pieces around the board, the app just tells you what to do.

I've played a couple of times, and it does. The problem is teaching new people to play it if they haven't gotten themselves up to speed beforehand (I watched it played on youtube before I ever got it). The early game is slow no matter what, and that's exacerbated by newbie lag.

Yeah, those are absolutely classic. The artist really captures the gonzo, comically lethal style of old-school play. Played or ran all of those dungeons back in the day.
