Hows this for a first set? Bianca was up 5-1, Petkovic fought back to 5-5, Bianca breaks again to serve for the set a third time, gets broken again, but in the tiebreaker finally closes it out. Hopefully she has enough left to close the match out.
Oh and Genie is in the doubles final. Her partner? Sloane Stephens. I'm struggling to think of a more perfect pairing than that, their career trajectories are stunningly similar and they are both bordering on irrelevant.

I think Bianca ran out of steam after that first set tie-breaker. Oh well, onto the Rogers Cup.

Even if she loses in her first match in Toronto, we've seen what she can do. At this point the biggest impediment to the three big youngsters making noise on tour is physical. They're still a year or two away from being physically ready to compete, but the talent is clearly there for all of them.

Meh. Same match on all 4 sports net channels. Abanda plays at 6:15 center court.

Polansky vs. Pospisil tonight with the winner getting Fed in round 2. Tough draw.

With the rain delay in Toronto, why couldn't Sportsnet have tuned one of their station to this match earlier? One channel is enough to watch boring John Isner lose to Delpo.

Too bad for Schnur, he had opportunities to win the opening set against Gasquet.

Polansky takes the opening set over Vasek 7-5 - Vasek fell apart and doesn't look good at the moment.

Pretty impressive performance by Schnur. This time last year he was getting ready to play the ITF event in Calgary in a couple of weeks. It seems like his game has come a long way in just 12 months.

I wouldn't read too much into this loss on Vasek's part. Polansky could very well finish the year within the top 100 and has been a tough out for some high end players this season.
Pospisil is not a top 30 player and won't ever reach those heights again. He's pretty much right where he should be now with the chance to touch the top 50 if he has a good stretch of events here and there. There's something to be said if a guy can churn out a career as a consistent, top 100 guy from this point.

Honestly, Pospisil should probably go the Nestor route and increase his focus on doubles.

Yeah, it might be the right call. PopSock was a pretty good doubles team, but Jack Sock is having some pretty good success playing singles these days (it's funny because Vasek used to be the better singles player, but that's no longer the case). Vasek also has had some brutal luck as far as singles draws have been concerned this year, although that's what happens when you allow your singles ranking to drop that low, you end up playing top 8 guys either in round 1 or round 2.
