Sessions has gone full Costanza!

Trump vs. Sessions. Imagine a scenario where sane Liberals are cheering for Jeff Sessions.

Yeah it can be complicated...

First vote was to open debate on the House bill, Next Vote was on McConnell's bill (AKA the "Better Care Reconciliation Act"), Vote today was on the "Repeal and Delay", Next they'll likely be a vote on "Skinny Repeal" which "just" removes the individual/employer mandate and a tax on medical devices, Then McConnell will use those votes + the results of the eleventy quadzillion amendments attached to to cobble together one more vote... if that get's the ayes it needs (either 51 or 60 for parts of the bill that run afowl of the Byrd Rule) then that bill goes into conference with the House of Representatives and the bill that emerges from conference will be voted on. That is what then becomes law (assuming Trump signs it).

... the American legislative system is stupid.

Can anyone help explain Obamacare like I'm an idiot?

Here's my attempt to explain my understanding like I'm an idiot:
-If you're below the poverty line you qualify for Medicaid (not new), but Obamacare expanded Medicaid
-If you're not poor but not too rich (1x-4x the poverty line), Obamacare gives you tax credits to offset the cost of purchasing health insurance
-If you're too rich (> 4x poverty line) there's no change. You're free to go purchase your own health insurance like before
-If you've got coverage through work Obamacare changes nothing
-Regardless of which of the above you fall in, Obamacare made it illegal for insurers to decline people with pre-existing conditions
-They paid for this all somehow but I don't know how but its safe to say Republicans probably didn't like it

Am I close???

Reading the replies to her on Twitter is hilarious.

Pretty decent summary. It's more complex than this, as the States have control over what you have access to, but this is a decent "general" overview. State involvement, and provision of the access pools, is what makes it more complex than it needs to be.

This is exactly why single payer at the national level needs to be instituted. Illness transcends state boundaries, so should healthcare and insurance coverage.

If anybody's curious, there's a flowchart provided by Vox which basically states all the above in a visual form (it's a mess, so it's probably easier to discern what's happening in a chart).

We're currently at the "More debate" point if I'm understanding all the votes correctly.

Well it's simple enough to not look at it as cheering for Sessions so much as you can claim to be cheering for the Justice Department's independence from the White House. At the same time the potential Giuliani confirmation hearings make it very tempting to support Trump. What an absolute debacle those would be.

Grassley saying that firing Sessions won't get Trump a new AG anytime soon.

Finally a win for the good guys. A small one, sure, but at least it's something.

NPR had some policy specialist on earlier talking about this. If Trump fires Sessions, he is limited by law on who he can choose to fill that empty position--someone with at least 90 days of service and a sterling record among his colleagues. If Trump does not pick from a very specific list of replacements, his pick could be held up in the courts indefinitely.

If Sessions resigns, however, Trump has free reign to basically hire literally anyone he wants to replace him. He could hire me as AG if Sessions resigned. Trying to push Sessions out gives him much more control over replacement.

This past election was a perfect example of why a stunt like this works. Blue collar voters in the Rust Belt voted for Trump largely because of exactly things like this--America doesn't look like the very white, picket-fence, housewife in a dress with dinner on the table past that they were sold as the "American Dream." They "no longer recognize America." For some people who might even be accepting of gay rights, trans rights are a whole different story, and trans people in the military will be far harder for them to rally behind than women or gays. It definitely puts Rust Belt Democrats in an awkward position. Appalachian Democrats are much different than East or West Coast Democrats, they're going to lean much more conservative.

She mentioned it to me today, talking via FB message with said trans friend. "Oh, Aria is just really upset today. You know, after what the military did."

Not what Trump did. What the military did.

Said trans friend, who is currently living in NY, was asking about moving to Pittsburgh since she's scared by herself in New York--and in Pennsylvania she can concealed carry so she'll be safer here!

There's absolutely no connection to the fact that this was a Trump decision, not a military one. I'm not at all surprised.

If I'm Sessions, I do my own tweet storm starting with "shut your trap Trump" or fire me! and end it with "you better hope our early conversations weren't recorded"

^^Because he's accusing him of being the leaker. So yeah this is going to turn into high school in no time with how Mooch does things.

Also I would imagine when SNL returns that Rachel Dratch will be doing the role of Scaramucci.

What makes this so much juicier is that he has deleted this tweet because "leaking" a financial disclosure that became public to anyone who asks four days ago is not a felony.

@Lawrence Lawrence O'Donnell

It's official. @Scaramucci is the stupidest person ever to work in White House communications.

Here's a challenge: Try and watch the whole thing without either laughing hysterically, or rolling your eyes so hard they nearly fall out of your head. And yeah, Trump is not an elitist because he eats pizza and burgers, and ending Obamacare is more or less like ending slavery...this guy is going to give SNL ten times the material Spicey did.
