This is what is nuts:

The kill was independently verified by video camera and other data, The Globe and Mail has learned.

“Hard data on this. It isn’t an opinion. It isn’t an approximation. There is a second location with eyes on with all the right equipment to capture exactly what the shot was,” another military source said.

It isn't an guess, it is bang on numbers.

It is good for Canadians to remember how good we are at killing people.

Weeks before, Canadian Master Cpl. Arron Perry briefly held the world’s best sniper record after he fatally shot an insurgent at 2,310 metres during the same operation. Both soldiers were members of the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.

It's not just setting a new record, the guy absolutely obliterated the old one by 1 000m, or by 40% if you prefer. That is mind boggling. Three of the top 5 shots held by Canadians which is also impressive.

Capt. Megan Couto, 24, led some 40 Canadian soldiers through the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The 35-piece Royal Canadian Artillery Band led the way, performing and marching along The Mall under the blazing sun as a crowd of a few hundreds tourists watched from the sidewalk.


The band performed Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and the theme song to Hockey Night in Canada.


The Canadians could be distinguished from the usual British foot guards by their grey headwear, called pith helmets, rather than the black bearskin helmets worn by British guards.

I saw something on line that the Brits are disputing this, as they had a female do this position, the difference being is Capt Cuoto is the first female from an infantry regiment.

I can't seem to find the article that talked about it.

Yeah I'll believe it when I see it, I have my reasons for pessimism.

Basically this is the lego song interview "Everything is awesome"

followed by "We're going to add some guys"

Plus there's no structural reform of the system, its basically stay the course with what I see is a hyper confusing multiple ministry mess

Critics of the system have repeatedly asked the government to create one single department responsible for all military procurement. Finn said that isn't on the radar right now.
"Are we going to fundamentally change the authorities of ministers or are we going to smash it all together? Not at this point," he said.

This is pretty empty for me

Finn noted many other projects previously tied up in the system are moving ahead or being delivered, such as new armoured vehicles for the army, Arctic patrol ships for the navy, and search-and-rescue planes.

These things were pretty much in production with the Conservatives.

I still have a bit of healthy skepticism to the Liberal plan because they're really not going to do much spending on major projects until after the next election, so they can basically win the election and poop can this whole thing.

I'd say the same thing about any government since successive governments have mishandled the defense file worse then most other ministries.

I was talking to a pilot tonight at Stampede, and his opinion was, we should buy the F-35, its the best plane for our needs. But it won't happen.

More or less my thinking now. They've realized it really is the best option but don't want to flip flop on the issue, so they stick to their guns and wait until the next election to either make up their minds or let a different government deal with it

Not sure if dumb question, but if Canada gets new planes, would we also have to get all new armaments for it? When I was younger I played a lot of flight sims so I'm familiar with US weaponry (AMRAAM, sidewinders,Mk series bombs....) but I was never sure what the Canadian airforce uses.
With new armaments, that means a new logistic chain, purchasing, and servicing, all that adds to a cost to a temp superhornet upgrade or new F-35s
