I think it is important to point out that in the first two months there were not a lot of complaints about Troy Brouwer. He was on track to score +15 goals and flirt with 40 points, and had he hit those totals, most people probably would have been fine with how his season turned out. But he injured his hand in Dec, missed three weeks, and really looked quite bad on his return.
There are plenty of reasons why Brouwer had a bad year, but many of these are also sound reasons to expect that he will be much, MUCH better next season.

He really can't be worse.
If he wants to endear himself to the fans and teammates next season, in the season opener, he needs to drop the gloves with one of Maroon, Lucic, or Kassian and set the tone for the whole season that the Flames aren't going to be pushed around by bigger teams. That would be huge for the fan base and more importantly, to the players in the locker room.
Oh he also needs to fare well against them.

No, he really does not "need" to do this. He needs to play hard and he needs to contribute the same level of offence he did in Oct/Nov last year. I for one could care less if he trades punches with one of Edmonton's cavemen.

Yeah I remember him actually doing pretty good the first two months. Just sucks that he was pretty much the only one that did. Then his year fell apart as everyone else's picked up
Chalk me up as not worried about Brouwer. I don't think there's any way he has another season like last, it was literally the worst in his career

Huh, didn't remember/notice that so thanks.
I guess that shows how easy it is to ignore a guy just going about his business as expected.

Thanks for that.
I always knew he had been banged up, and that his production suffered post injury. I had no idea it was that night and day.
I always felt that Brouwer had a very good chance of bouncing back, I feel even a tad more optimistic about it now.

I don't hate Brouwer and hope he rebounds... but even when he was playing fairly well before the injury I just didn't see the snarl and compete level I was hoping for. For the entire season I could have sworn it was David Jones wearing a Brouwer jersey.
Just hope there's a bit of a fire lit under him now and we see a bit more desire on top of better numbers.

Luke Gazdic. That and the ongoing goaltending mess proves Treliving has chinks in his armor (please save the ethic jokes).

Yep... that on going goalie mess that saw us make 2 playoffs in 3 years... and Gazdic replacing Bollig's muscles in the AHL is the last straw.
Tree is fine and has put himself IMO in the early, early lead for GM of the year discussion going into this year.
Where's this post is terrible?

Seriously? I think the Gazdic deal is gross, but this hardly counts when factored against the mountain of great things Treliving has done. All this proves is that he is human like all of his GM contemporaries, and not a flawless automaton who will always make the right decision forever.

There is nothing more entertaining on CP than watching a handful of anti-goon posters lose their #### whenever a tough guy is brought in.
The Heat are young and aren't very big. Bringing in someone like Gazdig is so minor. Who fricking cares?

Is it gross? I don't love it, but it's a 1 year, two-way deal. The amount hasn't been released but it certainly won't count against our cap this year.
This is solidly in the "meh" camp. The worst part about this deal is the 2% it contributes towards our contract limit.

It is gross because it is Gazdic, but I completely agree with you which only serves to reinforce my point. It is gross that I regularly have to blow my nose or wipe my ass; the Gazdic contract is gross in a similar respect.

I don't know anything about the player aside from what I've read on this forum and on Flames Nation. Neither site speaks glowingly of him however.

AHL signing is for the AHL. He might play 5 games in the NHL, tops.

I'm going to give Treliving some props for something he didn't do in the last two days: Sign Marleau to that god awful contract the Leafs did. Smart, smart man. Sometimes the best decisions are the ones you don't do.

Same with Justin Williams. The only player we know they chased signed for pennies with Chicago. Good news all around.

The on-going goaltender mess that has us still wasting assets in search of a guy who can stop a puck when it matters. Making the playoffs don't mean a damn thing if you get knocked out in the first round because your goaltenders #### the bed. I can't believe some fans are so myopic that they see the very minor success of making the playoffs as something to be proud of and wear as a badge of honor. There is enough talent on the team to go a helluva lot further than just making the playoffs, and with a goaltender that doesn't leave stains in the crease each game, the Flames are two or three rounds deep.
So yeah, you thinking that just getting into the playoffs, and the continual swing and a miss at finding a goaltender is satisfactory (seven in three years), deserves the "this post is terrible" thank you.
BTW, It's okay to be critical of a weakness with management. Otherwise, we sound like those dopes up the QE II.
