The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Schultz continued his stellar play right into the postseason, when his 13 points (4G-9A) in 21 contests led the team and placed third (tied) among all league blueliners. His two game-winning goals and seven power-play points led all defenders in the postseason. Schultz opened the scoring in the Pens' pivotal 6-0 victory in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. Three nights later, Patric Hornqvist scored the Cup-clinching goal by banking a Schultz shot that had missed the cage into the net for the winning marker in the decisive Game 6.
Pittsburgh acquired the Kelowna, British Columbia native from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 2016 third-round draft pick in February of 2016. Since migrating east to Pittsburgh, Schultz has totaled 59 points (13G-46A) in 96 regular-season games, and has added 17 points (4G-13A) in 36 postseason games.

Haha, stupid Oilers.

Unbelievable. How does Pittsburgh win Stanley Cups?
Two great players
Bold trades that pay off (Kessel)
Productive draft picks that play meaningful roles (Guentzel)
Home grown goalies
Value trades that pay off huge (Schultz)
Oilers screwed the pooch with this guy. That said, he's probably overpaid now.

Schultz and Petry!!!!
Can you imagine the Oilers with those 2 D?
They have wasted more talent with insidious development than all the other NHL teams combined.
Complete septic field!

Great signing. Basically a younger version of Shattenkirk for 1.2 million less and shorter term.

Watching both in the playoffs left me of the opinion that Schultz is far better than Shattenkirk.

Maybe by as much as Hamonic or Brodie is underpaid, but no doubt he's a good d-man by any measure, and likely to continue to improve.
Could be a value contract by the end.

That is pretty low for the top pairing in today's day and age.

But he's not a top pairing Dman, he's an offensive specialist. He's a #3.
Is there anyone here (other than ricardodw) who would even discuss trading Hamilton straight up for him?
He has resurrected his career, and become the player people basically expected, but he isn't a top pairing guy and this is a lot of coin for him. If he weren't on Pitt, getting tee'd up on the PP all night, would he have had this kind of success this year?

He was 11th in norris voting this year. One spot ahead of dougie who was 12th. I wouldn't trade him for Hamilton any day of the week but the votes are what they are. His salary is the lowest out of any of the other players in the same voting class as him.
