New arena in the next decade. Wow! We're so lucky. So, it will have only taken 20 years to build from when King started yacking about it.

I'm hoping it's Patrick Marleau (but I seriously doubt it).

So naturally they chose not to go that route now...

As much as I absolutely hate it, I would assume the jersey market is fairly inelastic, as long as a "passable" jersey is offered. So with a new manufacturer you ride the wave of "new" and "fresh" with a standard one, and then milk the retro jersey at some point amidst deep runs in the playoffs, after building up the bandwagon fanbase even more. It makes business sense.

To clarify, he didn't say whether or not this vet had ever won a cup before (at least from what I remember hearing) so I don't necessarily think you should exclude those who have. Maybe he's someone who has won before but wants to win one more time.
In the moment, my mind immediately thought of Justin Williams, but that may be more wishing than realistic.

Marleau would be one of the Flames fastest skaters.
The others? Not so much.
Too much money probably.

I suspect the retros will be back with the opening of a new building in three or four years.

My guess is it's one of two things;
1) The Flames know they can sell the "new" jerseys this year and next so they're going to milk it a bit. Possibly introduce a third next season. Then in a few years sell even more "new" jerseys when they make the switch to retros.
Or
2) The Flames have seen the overwhelmingly negative response to the Adidas jerseys and are finally caving.
Also, FWIW King also said they might try something "kooky" on a third jersey in the future so prepare for that possibility.

I think its one of Doan, Marleau or Iggy.
Jagr will play into his 50s.

I think I would tear up if Giordano were to hand skilled forward Jarome Iginla the Stanley Cup...

Jagr would be pretty awesome. I'd take Marleau second. Iggy or Doan meh. Think I'd even take Vrbata before them.

Marleau's hometown Swift Current is relatively close to Calgary. I wonder if he would want to move closer to home.
However, he has now spent have his life in San Jose, so maybe the connection is no longer close.
I'm guessing that Treliving is referring to Doan.

He does meet all the criteria. Natural RW.
Also roots in AB, and connections to Treliving/Maloney. Probably longtime buds with Smith as well.
That being said... he appears to have fallen off a cliff this year so I dunno, even on the cheap.
