If we re-sign Stone we lose the 2018 5th rounder too. Haha

Between that and the fact none of our "close to NHL ready" D prospects were dealt, I'm starting to think Stone may not be back after all.

You can bet your bottom dollar that will be addressed before then.

Conditions get a little complicated. If CGY misses playoffs in 2019, NYI gets the 2nd round pick that year.

That's because there's a pre-existing deal in place with ARI, that if CGY makes playoffs in 2019, ARI gets CGY's 2nd rounder.

now
So if ARI gets that 2019 2nd rder, NYI will get 2020 2nd round pick from CGY.

Since i believe in the team TRE is building its not complicated to me. Flames wont have a 2nd round pick until 2021. IMO these 2nd round picks are going to be late 2nd round picks. Great trade.

You can't put enough value on a cost certainty conract like Hamonics.

Rest easy folks. If the Flames blow it next season or the one after they will likely be able to move some players for 1st/2nd round picks.

Hmmm .. I like that we got Hamonic and we didn't give up any of our young prospect but I am a little iffy on the extra 2nd. Oh well I guess I trust Treliving.

Now that we traded for Hamonic. Is this mean they don't have any interest in re-signing Michael Stone? I hope they still sign him.

Really amazing how Calgary has turned future picks into good NHL D now.

Dellow doesn't mind it...

So potentially from now until 2021 the Flames don't have a second round pick

that's pretty rough i know but i'm better with it because this isn't a short term move three years on a sweetheart deal.

plus treliving had snow protect him through the expansion draft which cost snow dearly. an expansion draft where the flames lost an expiring contract and that's it.

very shrewd navigating for treliving in pretty complicated circumstances over the last week. IMO of course

I know HF is faux pas but just to give you an inkling of how good of a deal this is most of them we're predicting either Backlund+ or Bennett+. They don't know Tre.

I am ecstatic about this trade. We have a set top 4 for reasonable money for the next couple seasons along with 15m cap space to sign Bennet, Ferland, Lazar, Versteeg and a backup goalie.

Flames are going for it!

A very big overpay to land a #4, but it was a hole we needed to fill.

CapFriendly @CapFriendly
With the #Flames trading for Hamonic, they now have roughly $15,717,457 in projected cap space moving forward with 15 players.

Awesome! Another 4th rounder. Flames tend to excel in that round.

It feels to me like the equivalent of a UFA over-payment. Not the end of the world but more than you would normally expect to pay.

well, I believe that calgary shed Engelland and Widemans contracts this year... so what's that equal? 9-10 million in Defense contracts?

Also not sure how Smid's contract affects the cap...

still seems like we could sign stone if the cost is reasonable...
