Personally if I had my pick of the litter for #4 and #5, it would be Stone and Girardi, with Franson and Del Zotto being close runners up. If you could get them under 7, that would be awesome.
Here's how the team stacks up as of right now with Ferland, Bennett, and Lazar as educated guesses (RFA)
Gaudreau (6.75)-Monahan (6.375)-Free Agent
Tkachuk (1.775)-Backlund (3.575)-Frolik (4.3)
Ferland (1.5)-Bennett (2.7)-Brouwer (4.5)
Lazar (1.0)-Stajan (3.125)-Jankowski (.925)
Bouma (2.2)
Hamilton (.613)
Total - 39.338 - 1 Spot to Fill
Giordano (6.75) - Hamilton (5.75)
Brodie (4.65) - Free Agent
Free Agent - Kulak (0.75)
Andersson (.863)
Total - 18.763 - 2 spots
Smith (4.25)
Free Agent
Total - 4.25 - 1 spot
62.351 Million + 1.051 Raymond buyout - 63.402
Cap is 75 mil, so 11.6 million to fill all of that. Stone at 3.5-4 and #5 in the 2.5-3 range would eat most of it up so we could only afford a guy like Versteeg for the 1st line RW (or roll Ferland there). Buying out Stajan and Bouma would save some $ now, but would cost some next year. Not sure if it's worth it. Even re-assigning them to the farm and allowing Chiasson and Janko to take their spots with the cap hits remaining basically flat would be an overall upgrade and would provide injury depth at least.
It's going to be tough to fit anything more than what the current lineup is in there. Going the route of having a great 1-7 defense is probably the best way of going about things even if the Flames lack a true #1 RW.

If the Flames can add Hamonic they would have their top 4 locked up for 3 years at slightly under $21M per. Considering the age of the group 3 of the 4 are in their prime and the other is an elite number 1.
If Smith plays like a number 1 and Jihnny gets back to being a top 10 scorer the Flames could be very good next year

Obviously a strong partner for Brodie is a must have. Beyond that though they can muddle through with cheaper journeymen or some of the kids on the farm.
They need to add some offense somehow though. Whether its a pure offensive guy up front or getting some more scoring from the blueline (which is hard to count on)
This formula was shown to be the case pretty clearly in the SC final. Niether team was top 10 in GA last year....both were in the top 10 in GF however.

Ugh no. The Flames have been a very good offensive team for years. Besides, having 5 very good defencemen means less time spent in our own zone. Which means more goals for and less against. We do not need a top end winger at all right now.
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Frolik
Ferland
Lazar
Brouwer
Versteeg?
Chiasson
That's a good mix of skill, speed and grit. Games are won with centers, defence, and goaltending. Adding a scoring winger is both costly and improves the team the least. Add to the fact that either Jankowski or Bennett could be on the wing next year and it's easy to see why wingers aren't priority

Is there a 30 goal scorer in that entire group besides Gaudreau?

Maybe.
I just dont see Bennett ever being a big scorer in this league, though i hope i am dead wrong on that.
Brouwer is what he is...and even if he gets back to 20ish, thats not enough for the team.
Brodie looks to me that as long as he is forced to play on the left side he wont match his offensive numbers of a couple years back.
As for Johnny....yeah he should be a difference maker but he is a playmaker before he is a shooter....hence getting someone to finish off his playmaking. Maybe that guy is already on the team...maybe not.

Finisher for Gaudreau...like Monohan? Derp. Gaudreau has also fired home 30+ goals. 1 season ago. The one we're he didn't have a broken hand and miss camp. Like seriously? Our two best scorers missed camp and each had injuries early on.
We also changed to a more defensive system. The forwards are fine the bottom half of the defense is non existent.
If Niederreiter (SP) and Hamonic cost the same package in a trade, who do you think helps us win more?

So not Anaheim?
I guess one of those teams made some noise but also had the best defencemen in the NHL.

Can you really expect 30 from Gaudreau every year?

Anaheim had 2 if you count Patrick Eaves who had 11 in 20 games after being traded there.

If I am counting correctly...there were 26 30 goal scorers in the league last season.
17 of them were wingers.

I think we should expect 25, and 30 from Monahan. I think Tkachuk will be a threat to score 30 when he hits his prime. The Flames's strength in scoring last year came in balance—reliable offensive producers on three lines and scoring threats from multiple defensemen. When there are twelve players who can score +10 goals on the roster, having multiple 30-goal scorers is not as important.

The point is that calgary had ZERO 30 goal scorers last year, and Monahan is the only one who at the moment can realistically be counted on to score in that vicinity next year.
Why is this even a conversation? Calgary only had two TWENTY goal scorers last year, let alone 30.
