The Oilers oiled themselves with Lucic's contract. It is buyout proof

Dreger was on the radio not long ago saying that most of Eberle's money will be going to Russell. Expects a 4 year, $4-4.5 million AAV contract.

If that is really the contract that is crazy. Just last year no one would sign him so they got him on a one year deal. What do they think has changed over the year that he's now going to get a 4 year deal?

What's taking them so long to release the term
Could it be shame.

Not really sure that's an accurate representation of what happened last summer. From reading between the lines I think he waited and turned down offers hoping the Flames would be able to move someone and make room for his salary. They couldn't and thus he kind of had to take a last minute offer. Seems pretty obvious living in Alberta is a pretty big thing for Russel.
That's what I think happened, not sure how we can know for sure.

Oilers are in a bad spot because with the injury to Sekera for half the season they need Russell more then Russell needs them because he knows the Flames will come calling if he's available on July 1st.

4.2M AAV?
News UpdateKris Russell is set to re-signs with the @EdmontonOilers in the next 24-48 hours. 4 years/$18M with a full NMC is what I'm told. #Oilers
Edit - appears to be a scout for the Surrey Eagles, not sure how connected he would be.

If true not worth it. Russell gave them what they needed on that 1 year 3.1m deal but 4 years at 4m per perfect resign him for that it would be great to see then burn cap space especially with the big contracts that will be demanded after 2017.

Your math is bad, that would be a 4.5M AAV.

I understand why Russell would want a NMC but surprised he could command one, particularly at that AAV. I don't think his bargaining position is that strong. If true, Oilers getting a bad deal.
