I'm absolutely fascinated with watching how the Pens get out of this.
Fleury has a NMC. If they don't find a way to trade him (or buy him out) in the next SIX days, they have to expose Murray to Vegas.
This is going to be a really fun week.

He will either be traded or bought out. There is literally 0 chance they lose Murray.
The question is where does MAF end up. Some think his final destination won't be Vegas.

They can't trade him unless he says so. If they buy him out, they get a 2M cap penalty for the next few years. For a cap team, that's a painful hit.
Like I said, I just find it really interesting.

And if Pitt does buy Fleury out, does that make him a candidate to sign a lower value deal?

If I were the pens, I'd trade Murray. They'll get a lot for him, Fleury is still good and they have another goalie prospect who will be ready soon.
Stranger things have happened...

You make a great point. One could argue Tristan Jarry is already one of the best young goalies. He's been dominant in the AHL.

I don't think MAF is the type to demand to stay. I think he accepts his fate, and calls it a day with the Pens for some Southern team. I wouldn't even be surprised if he ends up in Colorado.

Marc Andre Fleury just said he's not sure what's gonna happen. That's not something someone who intended on keeping their NMC would say.

If the Pens were the Flames...they had just won 2 Stanley Cups in a row with a rookie goaltender...How would you feel if your team traded that goalie and kept the old, declining goalie and banked their hopes on a goalie prospect who maybe doesn't even pan out in the NHL.

Sounds like wishful thinking from a fan of a team that needs a goaltender like Murray badly. Guy has two cups at 23, he's going to be one of the best in the world for the next decade+.

Doesn't really mean anything. He has a NMC but a partial NTC. It is still possible the Pens work out a trade with someone who isn't on his no trade list and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
Also of note: the deadline for players to waive NMC for the expansion draft is tomorrow at 5pm ET if they haven't done so already.

Hmm I always thought a NMC implied a full NTC. The more you know...

Wouldn't Fleury make millions of extra dollars if the Penguins were forced to buy him out?
He'd likely be traded to another team not on his list, but still.

He would make at least $4-5 million more one would think if he forces a buyout.
The Penguins couldn't trade him at that point because he'd be a free agent.

Does anybody else think, based on Tre's comments this week about not having a protection spot available, that he might have a deal in place for Fluery done?
