Soooo. I guess it's time I think of this Smoak run as a legit thing? Cause this seems legit.

17 HR, one behind Judge for the MLB lead.

I am scared to actually start believing this is real. I still expect him to strikeout every time he hits the plate.

I see Barnes had another mostly terrible 2.0 innings today without giving up a hit and striking out 3.

Funny how what looked like the weakest part of the roster heading into the season is turning out to be the strongest. The bullpen is awesome right now, and has been for a while.

Given an opportunity he sure is running with it and then some!

I'm shocked about Smoak as well. Question though. In the off-season, is an overachiever who has high value all of a sudden, trade bait? I personally believe this is a blip in the radar, and he will regress by seasons end, so I'd deal him for max value in the off-season.

We're 8th worst in blown saves. The bullpen has been better but they lost a lot of early games ... As always

As has been discussed already, that had a lot to do with Osuna coming back lame from the World Baseball Classic or whatever that crappy tourney is called.

Probably accounts for at least half of them right there.

You'd think if any fan base would be more accepting of Smoak's sudden turn around it would Jays fans after watching both EE and Bautista get picked up off the scrap heap and suddenly turn into massive producing power hitters at 29/30 years of age.

Bautista's career high OPS before 29 was 0.757

He went on to post 0.995, 1.056, 0.886, 0.856, 0.928, 0.913 the next 6 seasons.

Edwin also had struggled with consistency barely cracking an 0.800 OPS before turning 29

Then 0.941, 0.904, 0.901, 0.929, 0.886 and averaging almost 39 dingers per season.

Hopefully Smoak doesn't turn out to be a flash in the pan and this is just the beginning of a nice 5/6 year run for him and the Jays.

It's almost like bullpen's are mostly random and a few bad outings for any reliever can make it look awful.

Except it's not random when the same issue of the bullpen blowing close to ten games to start every year, happens every single year. That said, Osuna being hurt definitely played a part this year.

Sounds like training camp for relievers needs to change/improve

Aaron Sanchez feeling ‘tremendous’ difference in injured finger

Quote:
"Oh my God, tremendous," he said of the difference in his finger from then to now during an interview. "There’s nothing there, I’m finally able to get extension, finally able to get that natural sink every single time instead of forcing it. That was one of the issues that was bothering me before, I felt like it was taking a lot out of me to get that because the ball couldn’t come off my fingertips. That was right where the blister was at.

Super excited to watch the Seattle series this weekend. One time I'll actually make the trip down, but its still a blast to watch and listen on TV / radio.

Let's take 2 of 3 and start trending back in the right direction.

lol @ the cost of hotel rooms in Seattle right now. You can get a room by the airport for the same price as it would cost to stay in the Skydome hotel.

What an odd little economical boost Seattle gets every year for 3 days (namely the past 3 years). Their baseball fans and non-fans alike must just love the Jays visits and what they bring.

It really is surreal. I went last year for the series and it was just wild, the entire city turns blue. the market everyone is in blue jays gear. every bar every restaurant every hotel. We were in a cab and the driver had sports talk radio on and the DJ was loosing his mind saying how embarrising it is that every year jays fans take over the city. If anyone is on the fence about doing this trip in the future i highly recommend it!

Had I not got laid off last year when the schedule was announced I definitely would have been there this weekend. Hopefully I can stay and go next year.
