This team needs some good veteran presence, which is the only thing Brouwer brings. Williams can bring offense and leadership.
He's a clutch playoff performer with multiple cups. He also has great underlying numbers.
I'd rather Williams at 2 years around 3 million vs. Brouwer at his contract or Oshie at the massive contract he will sign this off season.

Does this lineup get you to the playoffs and deep into the playoffs? I don't think that it does(you may make the playoffs but not far.)

I am just tired of these "band-aid" fixes every summer. Getting a legit No.1 would make me very excited for next season.
If the Flames had a Murray, Rinne, Anderson, or Talbot it's entirely possible they're playing in the finals this year.
Goaltending has to be solved properly this summer.
2017 1st, Gillies, Kylington for Schneider?
2017 1st, Gillies, Bennett for a signed Carey Price?
Too much, too little?

Problem is you need a dance partner to get a goalie like that. If the other team doesn't want to move their #1 goalie you have to massively overpay to get him, and even that might not work.
Schneider has term on his deal, so in that case you are hooped if they don't want to part with him.
Price has just one year remaining, so the hope there is that he is reluctant to sign an extension after July 1st, leaving Bergevin to contemplate the risk of having Price walk for nothing next summer if he doesn't move him this summer. In that case there is a glimmer of hope that Price wants to go West (where he and his wife grew up) and that Calgary is close enough for them, and that he views CGY's roster as one that can get a Cup with him helping and doesn't need him to drag them from lottery team to division winner like he does with the Habs.

It's better than this year's lineup, especially in goal and the bottom pairing D. So I don't see how it doesn't get you to the POs, since this years team got in (and would have been in comfortably absent a bunch of bad stuff happening off the bat).
Deep? Considering that the Flames could have beaten Anaheim absent a couple sub-par goaltending efforts (and I was never an Elliott hater) I think that lineup can get you into the second round. After that - who knows (see what the Preds have done even without their best forward, mainly on the strength of defence and mostly good play by Rinne).

And he's 35 years old, and will be 36 by the time next season starts. At that point, as they say in the securities business, ‘past performance is not indicative of future results’.

That lineup is definitely good enough to go deep into the playoffs. Adding one of the best goalies in the world - that alone could be enough. Factor in development of some of our younger guys and I'd say we're definitely a second round team if not better... which at this point in the rebuild is just fine with me.

I'm not suggesting the rumours have any credibility, but he could very well be trying to up his trade value by saying this. Which a good gm should be doing with all his players anyways.

Even that is debatable when he is not showing much by example. We had too many vets on the team last season going through the motions. I liked it better when we had guys up challenging for those spots. We need young guys getting their feet wet and pushing those lazy efforts a little harder.

Bishop is the only top goalie I can recall getting moved in recent history. Miller and Luongo were moved but quite a few years after being a Vezina candidate.

He was a starter in St.Louis...they got him as a highly touted backup from Dallas

I for one, am supremely impressed with this hour of power from Treliving. Not a once did I hear about "The Process".
My takes:
*Jankowski has a spot on the roster, it's his to lose.
* Pointed out my qualms with Ferland, consistency. We know he has the toolbox, he really needs to use it all 82 games.
* If they can get Stone back, they will. I'm keen to see how they fill the last two spots on D if they can get Stone back.
* Pick #16 is going to be awesome. Who will it be? Better scour deeper into the top 50.
I for one really like Treliving. I truly think he does enough work that all his moves are made being the most informed man in the league.

If you were to analyze Nashville's lineup at the start of the season did you think that lineup would at worst come within 2 wins of winning it all?
I'm not saying Calgary's would match up with Nashville, but if some of the younger guys did improve a bit, it could get close.
Since the 05-06 lockout, there have been 3 teams who were the 8th place team get to the cup, and in all cases this lower seed team at least was highly competitive in the series. Yes an elite team will have more shots at being in the playoffs, and being successful. But in any given playoffs, it is looking like anyone can make a push.

Versteeg is a decent depth guy but I don't know that he's the most underrated guy in the NHL...
Definitely would like to see him come back if he's willing to sign between $1-$2 mil AAV. Any more than that and I think you let him go.

TheScorpian is known for huge love for middling players. David Jones has been replaced by Kris Versteeg.
I don't mean any offense by that comment just an observation that he is a fan that loves role players which is fine

So we have Mike Smith and Justin Williams penciled in? Any other 35+ year old players we can add to help take this team over the top? Maybe Iggy will come back? Get Regehr out of retirement. I see him almost weekly of late and he looks like he's still in shape.
