Flames have already moved the second rounder, which pretty much rules out an offer sheet for a young player who matches the age range of the current core. Which would've been a viable strategy in a weak draft year.

I'm pretty sure if the Flames attempt an offer sheet this off season, the picks required would be the 2018 picks.

Of those we are only missing the 3rd, but it comes back if we don't re-sign Elliott or trade his rights.

No such thing as consensus in this draft.

Only 5 players in the top 20 have all their rankings above the Flames selection point.
personally, i like Bingo's pick of suzuki at 16...

tolvanen, vesalainen and kostin are also guys that sound intriguing... i do hope we draft a skilled forward if possible

On my consensus list, which has a couple different sources than yours, I've got Lias Andersson right 15 - so I'll predict him as I also see him as a strong fit.
If not him, I'll will predict Michael Rasmussen or Eeli Tolvanen fall and they grab one of those two.
I don't think it will be Suzuki.

I have a feeling that Suzuki will climb on draft day and go around 9th or 10th. He seems like he is getting a lot of hype leading up to the draft.

I see it the other way - that he drops to the 20s.
But of course I'm largely talking out of my arse!

I don't think he'll be much of a long shot at 16, he plays on a bad 67's team and he had injury's last year. scouts love this kid, great skater with elite vision and passing skills.

He lead the U18 Ivan Hlinka tourney in scoring last year.

Edit: Here's a nice snipe from top prospects game

The Flames would only be missing that 2018 3rd round pick IF Elliott RE-signs if I am not mistaken

Yeah, I probably worded it poorly.

It's conditional, so I assume the Flames still have it as of right now, but lose it if they re-sign Elliott (or trade his rights for a pick I believe).

So they could do an offer sheet and if it wasn't matched, and they lost that pick to the team who's player they signed to an offer sheet they would then be unable to re-sign Elliott (or trade his rights).

Yep, every year I seem to hook myself on the underdog prospects. Chemlevski is my guy this year. And he has those traits a lot of us think the flames need. A more shoot first mentality. A trigger man so to speak. A Right shot. And the dude can skate like the wind and has great hands. To me I think I relate him to Pavelski or Cammy. Cammy for the lethal one timer. But Pavelski for his ability to score in tight. It'll be interesting to see where he goes in the draft.

You got me interested. Does he have a quick release?

I think so. Quick enough for me. I was going to post a video of a goal but my phone suck for YouTube posting. Here's the link https://youtu.be/dLO-sBhVdBI

Edit: I do want to make it clear this player is not without warts. He has consistency issues, not glaring but he can disappear for a stretch. And he needs to develop a stronger 200ft game. But I don't see enough draw backs to push him down too far the rankings.

One guy who we may be looking at who, like Chmelevski, put up lower offensive numbers this year is Maxime Comtois. He checks alot of boxes as far as being big (6'2",200lbs) and plays a nasty power-forward type game. Even better, he is known to play a good defensive game (great penalty killer, blocks shots), and is a powerful skater.

I've skipped over him many times because his numbers aren't eye-popping, but he put up 60 pts in 62 g last year and was considered a potential top-10 pick for 2017. He also looked great in the prospects game, and apparently plays well on the international stage.

I think his numbers this year aren't an adequate indication of his potential, and that he may turn into another Boone Jenner/Brandon Saad type.

That would likely involve moving Brodie. Not worth Valardi + Nischuskin.

I believe he meant moving down to 29, not up to 3

If the Flames were to drop 13 spots from 16 down to 29, I sure hope we would get something better out of it than a Russian flight risk with no tool box to carry his tools.

That's an interesting thought. If you can trade 16 for something like 30+35 is Chmelevksi+Comtois better than an Andersson or a Vesalainen?

I think they honestly might be. I wonder if any teams would be interested in making a trade like that.
