I know GGG already mentioned it jokingly, but seriously, does owning a gun affect insurance in the States? You would think that it would.

its this kind of misguided reasoning that convinces those who only understand issues at their most superficial level....

Do hospitals treat those in emergency rooms regardless of insurance? Yes of course they do. Hospitals aren't going to leave people to die on the steps of the emergency room doors after all...

However, people in emergency rooms are really going to the treatment of last resort sort to speak. IF that patient has a life threatening condition, where they are in immediate risk, they will be treated.... if the examination reveals a non-life threatening condition, the hospitals do not have to treat them and they can be referred back to their family physician or another healthcare providers for additional treatment.

US Federal Law ensures that all patients in emergency rooms are examined, but that doesn't mean treated unless they are in immediate peril.

the uninsured simply put off visits to the doctor, or they cannot afford to pay for the prescription medication for their conditions. It becomes a literal 'death spiral', where health simply erodes to that point where one is desperate enough to go to an emergency room...

But by that time, potentially, one's health has declined to the point where their rate of survival may not be that great.... And if one is lucky enough to receive life saving treatment, guess what? You are still getting that bill, and if you can't pay it, they will send collection agencies after you to get their money...

Health insurance is critical because, like routine car maintenance, it is much cheaper to have regular checkups and take on preventative measures in lifestyle compared to major surgical procedures...

so, the notion that people have never died from lack of health insurance is ridiculous. People die all the time because they don't go to their doctor or seek treatment.. and by the time they do it may be too late to do anything anyways.

Not under the AHCA, but acne and pregnancy, among other ridiculous things, will be considered pre-existing conditions that can deny you health coverage.

Trump throwing a hissy fit this morning about all the negative press the GOP health care bill is getting.

Wow,the Fake News media did everything in its power to make the Republican Healthcare victory look as bad as possible. Far better than Ocare!

Why is it that the Fake News rarely reports Ocare is on its last legs and that insurance companies are fleeing for their lives? It's dead!

I wonder if he actually believes that last one or understands that it's only on its last legs because of his efforts to repeal it.

I read the other day about someone who was denied coverage for cancer because they had failed to disclose treatment for a pre-existing condition when they were 16...acne! It was on the internet though....

I wonder how far the U.S. is from allowing insurance companies to do DNA testing on their clients.

Well, 2018 will answer that question. They've been campaigning and winning on this promise since 2010. Right now one party can win, and one party can govern. Curious to see how much actual damage this does in 2 years and to see if it's enough to get Dem supporters out to midterms.

I don't think they care what they do the country or party. With regulatory capture, most of these guys are due to retire to cushy jobs as lobbyists. They are set regardless.

Money in politics changes priorities extremely so.

I'd just like to see the GOP get slaughtered as bad as the Dems in 2010 just so that taking on healthcare in totally different approaches would produce the exact same result from voters of punishing the party in power for taking the issue up. Seems Americans cannot figure out what they want, but I do think single payer is becoming more palatable because as the middle aged boomers become older voters, a generally solid voting block for the GOP probably isn't going to like rising health care costs. Will is translate at the ballot box? Still so very long away, but it's the Dems so finding a way to blow it is their calling card.

The problem is, this resonates with lots of people who are, let's just say, not very bright.

The changes that would affect their constituents most negatively probably won't be enacted until after the midterms. At least, that's how I imagine they'd play that.

Actually that is true. Well other than the prime minister part but he was the de facto leader of the Dutch republic.

Not health insurance generally, but it can affect your homeowners or renters insurance premium, particularly if you are applying for (or have) umbrella insurance coverage.

This is hilarious. No doubt Trump probably called this guy as soon as he heard the joke and ordered him to punish Colbert.

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/fcc-...mp-1202410837/

Quote:
FCC chairman Ajit Pai said that his agency will be looking into complaints made against Stephen Colbert for what some labeled a homophobic joke about President Donald Trump.

“I have had a chance to see the clip now and so, as we get complaints — and we’ve gotten a number of them — we are going to take the facts that we find and we are going to apply the law as it’s been set out by the Supreme Court and other courts and we’ll take the appropriate action,” Pai told Philadelphia’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT.

“Traditionally, the agency has to decide, if it does find a violation, what the appropriate remedy should be,” he continued. “A fine, of some sort, is typically what we do.” Pai was appointed to the FCC in 2012 by President Barack Obama. He was elevated to the chairmanship of the commission by Trump in January.
Quote:
Pai’s comments on Colbert are surprising as “The Late Show” airs outside the FCC’s long-established “safe harbor” time frame of 6 am to 10 pm in which the commission has the authority to police allegations of indecent and obscene material on the airwaves. They would also seem to clash with Pai’s vow to maintain a lighter regulatory environment for media overall.

This isn't really the forum to debate it, but I'm aware that there are accounts of this happening, I find that detail to be really extremely unlikely to be true. In general the depictions of that event have so many internally contradicting details that my I would say very little of what specifically happened can be considered confirmed facts.
