Just because you wasted your opportunity, don't expect them to waste theirs

Edit - I should clarify that I try not to do this either - just having some fun with you.

At our playoff draft we did a blind Calcutta and I ended up with the Ducks to win the cup so I at least have a reason to want them to win now that the Flames are out.

It's the only tried and tested formula for success in the salary cap world. Of course, this is all contingent on us cleaning house with the front office OBC much like the Oilers did.

Pittsburgh with Crosby and Malkin (1st and 2nd overall), Chicago with Toews (1st and 3rd overall), Washington with Ovechkin and Backstrom (1st and 4th overall), Edmonton with McDavid and Draisaitl (1st and 3rd overall), and soon Toronto with Matthews and Marner (1st and 4th overall).

If indeed Patrick/Hischier/Vilardi are not the kind of difference-makers that the above forwards are, then I want management to suck wind for another 2 years so we can draft guys like Svechnikov and Hughes in the following two years. By that time, Juolevi and Stecher will have some experience and guys like Horvat, Boeser, Virtanen, Dahlen will continue growing as a good supporting cast.

Sorry for the OT commentary*
lol 3 of you 5 teams haven't done ####...and have you looked at this years draft? No Crosby's, McDavid's, Ovechkin's, ect...for the next few years even

Fans like that deserved every minute of the previous 10 years and they sure as #### didn't deserve getting McDavid on their piece of crap hockey team.
That's frustrating to hear about, especially from people you barely know. I've been an Oilers fan my whole life and never felt confident enough to gloat. In a group chat/fantasy hockey league with a bunch of Flames fans who I've known my whole life. I'd say it's always them who do the chirping. Had a friendly bet with one about who'd finish ahead, and even when the Oilers were 10 points up in February didn't feel confident enough to say anything. Glad I didn't, haha. I remember the last decade, and the long time before 2006... all too well.

I think there can be bandwagon, petty, or unsportsmanlike fans for any team though. Part of what makes cheering for a team fun is the group identity, but it's also a drawback, especially with the internet. It's frustrating to me that any idiot can throw Oilers flair on in the hockey reddit, here, or on the notorious HFBoards (i've never been, haha) and as someone with the same allegiance I get put in the same camp. At the end of the day it's a game. Because I wear one jersey doesn't mean I'm like those who'd punch people, throw food at other teams, send unsolicited hate, etc. I try to keep that in mind and don't infer anything from someone's character based on their team choice. Unsurprisingly though, there's close to even representation of terrible people within most fanbases as there is in the general population. And with rivals especially, there's confirmation bias at work.

As for the topic at hand, I don't really get why any Flames fan would cheer for the Oilers, as never would I do the reverse. The 'Canada's team' thing is laughable. The only team I'd want to carry that title is my own. If the Leafs, Flames, Canucks or Canadiens were the team to make it to the final, I'd cheer for anyone over them, including teams in California or Florida. Ottawa or Winnipeg may be exceptions, but indifference would probably be the best I could muster. Oilers top the Ducks in 6.

You should let him have his delusional fantasy. Just like Verve who declared that Yakupov was the next Pavel Bure.

Looking forward to peace and quiet around here for 48 hours after every Ducks victory, just like in round one with SJ.

Washington hasn't been a perennial elite team since 2008?

I get that they haven't won a cup, but at least they've been one of the marquee franchises in the league. It beats what the Canucks have had to endure since 2013.

Also, Jack Hughes for the 2019 draft is considered to be a "surefire" prospect.

Perennial playoff choker

and Jack Hughes is no Crosby, McDavid ect.

Besides...even if you finish dead last its an 18% chance, good plan

Same thing happened to me with a guy I went to high school with who added me on Facebook about five years ago. I knew he liked the Oilers but never made one post about the Oilers or Flames up until this season. The first was asking me what the score was the night of the last game against the Oilers and then he posted a message saying he "knew the ####ty Flames couldn't beat the Kings" when they failed to clinch a spot.

He's not the only Oilers fan on my list but he's definitely the douchiest. And probably the biggest bandwagoner.

I do have one Ducks thing in my house too. I got my kid one of those Duck goalie masks at a game in Anaheim.

In my experience I've noticed that there are two kinds of fans, and this is true of both Flames and Oilers fans:

The lifelong fans who stick around win or lose tend to be more cautious about trash talk because they know sports are cyclical and what goes around comes around. They'll throw out a few comments here or there but they tend to be more reasonable
The bandwagoners are much more eager to trash talk when "their" team is winning, and when the team's losing they're nowhere to be found, so they never experience the other end of it. They're over the top with their comments but they couldn't tell you who Ryan Smyth is.

It's not completely black-and-white, but that's my experience.

That's why FB has an "unfriend" icon 😉

I'm an Oiler fan first, but also a subjective, level headed hockey fan & I don't condone over-the-top braggartism by any fan base. Some good natured ribbing is perfectly acceptable but neither the Oilers nor Flames have recently had any sustained success which would allow one fan base superior bragging rights over the other. Unfortunate that some "fans" don't get that.

I thought about it but I just unfollowed him. Same with his brother who is an even worse troll. Funny thing is he's a Jets fan so he really should shut his yap. Especially this year.

No way. If the Ducks win we won't have to hear about multiple times a day, every day from the most annoying fan base in pro sports. Go Ducks go.
