if the flames shut down eaves, rakell, kesler....they'll win the series....getzlaf isnt really a goalscorer and perry isnt going to be scoring all the goals by himself.

Yeah but Getzlaf has always been a Flames killer. No matter how he's doing against the rest of the league he always brings his A game against the Flames. He's the one that hung around at the boards to keenly intercept that clearing attempt by Barktkowski last game and made a pin point pass for the goal. Can't let him have space as he will find the open man around the net.

Yep.
He is one of the best in the world at what he does. Flames will need to limit him to win the series.

I think it boils down to Monahan handling him extremely well. The Flames need Sean to up his game in the intensity department if they're going to unseat the Ducks in this round. If Monahan plays more of the same soft, passive style with such reluctance to engage physically he does in the regular season, this team won't make much noise and Getzlaf will run all over him.

At least for the first two games I think you are going to see Kesler out against the Monahan line as he's done a pretty good job shutting them down.

Kesler or Getzlaf, it doesn't really matter. The Flames are going to go as far as Monahan is willing to take them. If he truly is this team's best and most well-rounded forward, this is when the team and fans need to see it.

I'm expecting a big series from Mr. Monohan.

I just pray that the Flames don't take the Ducks bait when it comes to scrums and cheap tactics. Just make room for the goalie around your net, and walk away from the rest of the shenanigans.

They need to tap into kippers ice veins for this series.

I think Backlund, not Monahan, will be the key to our success in the playoffs this year.
Obviously we'll need to get production/great all-around play from our best players (Monahan, Gaudreau), but I think Backlund is our most important player, maybe not in the future, but certainly this season.

Agreed. No series has weighed so heavily on one players shoulders since Jarmoe was captain

Rakell and Kesler are probably the two most important Ducks to shut down.

Am looking for Mony and Bennett to elevate their games for the playoffs - they will be key in setting the tone.

I disagree. Sean is the big money, top line player. Fans would have never cut Iggy that kind of slack and deferred to Conroy or Langkow.

Backlund will be Backlund this series, of that I have no concern. Players entering their prime, who the team is building around need to grab the bull by the horns this year. No excuses.

If that's you're definition then isn't it Gaudreau who is getting the most expectations placed on? Technically his contract is the bigger one and more likely to be the guy who takes over a game. Monahan has been more of a quiet dependable guy who pops out of nowhere with goals, many of which at key times.

The ducks are master baiters. I, too, hope we leave them alone.

Fairly recent history is worth taking a look back at. Also it jumps out that the Flames are a much better team now compared to 2015.
Kinda easy to forget that our top D pairing in that series was Russell and Wideman. Flames are much improved since then.
