I was surprised how many softballs Smith through at him. That whole think felt like King brought in a partner to help sell the show.

It never ceases to amaze me how many "fiscal conservatives" are supportive of giving money to sports franchises.

Ottawa's stadium was built in the same location as the old one and there is an arena below one side of the stands which is still there so it wasn't a complete new build.

Just dear god please no indoor football stadium. Live CFL football is about sitting outside on nice summer/fall days and evenings about 14 of the 18-20 games a year. You can't throw those 14 away for the other 4-6.

Danielle is usually pretty informed about her topics. You could tell she new very little about Calgary Next. She bought the pony and dance show King was selling.

Pretty sure Ken King was her boss at one point.

I had no idea Danielle Smith was now a radio host. Clearly more of a lobbyist than a journalist, but given her political background, doesn't surprise me.

I wonder if she'll defect to CBC radio?

Socialism for the extreme rich and capitalism for the rest of us. Danielle Smith is the last person Ken King needs to convince.

Lots of people like to say stuff like this but the fact is that Stamps attendance drops off when fall comes and the weather cools. They haven't had a legit sold out playoff game in a while. I agree that there's nothing better than sitting outside on a nice day watching a football game but the truth is that even some of the summer evening games can get fairly cool (downright cold if it rains) and I've sat through more than enough cool September and October games to the point I don't bother to go to fall games unless I'm in the suites. Really with a dome you would miss out on maybe 4 or 5 nice weather games a year at best and can attend all the fall games without dressing up in winter clothes and worrying more about your toes than the game. Not to mention having a dome lends to hosting more Grey Cups. IMO Regina was foolish to spend all that money on an outdoor stadium and not put a roof on it as that place gets all kinds of crazy rain, wind, cold, etc.

CFL is the problem here. Move the schedule up a month. I get the "fear" of having the Stanley Cup taking up all the focus, but no one cares about the first month of the CFL season. Have the season start at the beginning of June and have the season end by Halloween. Big weather issues almost entirely averted. Because indoor football would kill the biggest chunk of the CFL season.

As to the bolded, my man, you have the worst examples sometimes. So when it's -30, I don't have to wear any winter clothes to actually get to the game? What, do I live in the stadium? Are there gonna be +15's going from the new stadium all the way to McKenzie Towne?

Questions are likely agreed upon before hand. If you plan to ask tough questions and King doesn't want to answer them he wouldn't come on.

Sure you could ask those tough questions anyway, but news will spread and people will stop joining your program.

CFL games in November is ludicrous. The Grey Cup being handed out days away from December always seems backwards. Can't wait to get tickets in late November for the 2018 Grey Cup in Calgary.. or Edmonton. That should be an enjoyable event.

I agree that outdoor football is great but what do you do with the stadium when its under snow for 5-6 months of the year. That's the one thing I don't get about the Regina stadium - how can they possibly pay for that thing when its only being used for 10-11 football games a year and maybe 5-6 concerts? Does university football and community soccer really pay that much to use it?

Considering Smith is probably looking at some form of media personality position for the rest of her professional life, pissing off one of the gatekeepers of media positions in the city/province is career suicide.

There is a reason the Flames ownership thought it prudent to hire one of the chief opinion makers in the city to be the focal point and face of their organization.

That's exactly why I'm in the renovate camp. Specifically just the concourses. Major scope would be to extend it out onto the parking lot on the east and out onto the hill with some geotech work on the west. Then seal it all in. There's no way that's not possible.

Luxury boxes - don't care
Seats in place of metal benches - ya that would be nice but I just don't think seats fit on those concrete steps
Awning over the seats - meh. Don't block my sun in August.

They can pay for it because they have one of the highest property tax rates in Canada, second only to Saskatoon:

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/09...n_5890090.html

Montreal is no longer up there, for years they had the highest rate until the Olympic stadium was payed for.

I wouldn't mind an indoor football stadium. I won't bother going to Stamps games closer to the end of the season because I don't want to freeze my ass off.

So you'd rather be warm for 4-6 games in October-November instead of basking in sun for 10-14 in July-September. Pass. Buy a jacket and a butt pad.

Or just don't go and watch from your couch in October-November having enjoyed the sunlight in July-September.

Stamps/Flames owners might disagree with you on that one...

How are you going to 14-20 home games per season?
