Sleepy game. Not that impressed by Brandon considering how much hoopla they've gotten this year and all the trades they've made. Wouldn't be surprised to see Medicine Hat beat them to win the East.
Not much happening right now.

The Pats tried him at RW early this season, didn't they? He'll be an invaluable player if he can effectively play all 3 forward positions. Klimchuk strikes me as someone who will slot in on any line & play any role.

It looks like Klimchuk is playing RW on the Wheat Kings' top line with McGauley and Bukarts.
Brandon has really struggled the last two games, got blown out 5-0 against Everett and 6-1 last night against Red Deer.

Bump.
While people are excited about Jankowski (deservedly so), I think Morgan Klimchuk hasn't got as much love as he deserves for a great sophomore season. He only had 3 goals and 9 points in his first AHL season, but he's rebounded in style this year - with a goal and an assist in his 60th game today, he now has 18 goals and 41 points on the season. Good to see that kind of production, and given that he's often been praised for his hockey IQ, two way game and "jack of all trades" profile, I wouldn't be surprised if he made the Flames next season.

I love the Frolik comparison I've heard from time to time.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Hopefully by the time Fro's time is done here, Klimchuk is ready to take that role with the team. Maybe even a year or two sooner. Wouldn't hurt to have two Frolik's on your NHL roster.

Klimchuk may be ideal for a tutelage year as the LW for the Backlund Frolik line next year given the style of play. That way it is still 3M!
Tkachuk Bennett Lazar 2nd line please.

Great news, looks like he could develop into a solid third liner. This also removes some of the bitterness from the abysmal Iginla trade return.

If Klimchuk turns into an NHL top 9 player that will have saved the disastrous 2013 Draft

Well, I dunno. I guess when you have three picks in the first round of a draft and 8 total, you'd like to get a bunch out of it, but any draft you come away from with a 30g/60p center you can't really call a "disaster".

I wouldn't call the 2013 draft a disaster as a whole. It's just the 3rd round pick that still really pisses me off.

Plus, I'm now content with everything that's happened in this rebuild due to where we're at now. Every little change along the way could have changed what we are today.
Maybe if we hit better on our trades for Iginla and Bouwmeester we get decent players that push us ahead but not far enough and lose out on Tkachuk. Maybe a better draft pick on defense gets us a decent top four defenseman and we don't push hard for Hamilton.
At this point, who cares about frustrating picks we botched because look at us now.

Yeah, but you look at the next 10 picks or so after Kanzig, and it's not like we just missed out on anything.

well I'd argue that Guentzel kid is pretty good, plus Buchnevich and Hayden at least look like they could be legit NHLers in some role or another. Also later in that round were Duclair and Bjorkstrand, who had been thought to be at least 2nd rounders or even late 1sts ahead of the draft. So yeah, they didn't pass on any superstars, but it was still a bit of a waste of a pick. In hindsight, everything turned out fine, but Feaster and friends harping about how important and game-changing this draft was for the club and then turning around to draft Kanzig in the 3rd didn't sit well with me at all.

I didn't like the value they got of the Iginla and Bouwmeester first round picks. Klimchuk is the only player int he first round not to play an NHL game and only Jason Dickinson (4) has played less games than Poirier (8) in the first round. Thirteen players taken in the 2nd round have played more NHL games than Poirier and Klimchuk as well as 13 players in the 3rd round. Scouts kind of let the team down in this draft. Maybe Klimchuk can find a role as a bottom six forward and occasional 2nd line fill in but really that's about the best that can be expected.
