It's a soft relocation threat. Rather than a direct one but the intent was there. But we were discussing this in the other 4 threads on this yesterday.

Nope. Relocation fee paid, nope.

No way this happens regardless of the style of prank intended.

Good god.....Harley, Bud and Doc would have never been a part of such an article .

Murray Edwards and his new partners shouldn't be either.

A shame this article is alive joke or not.

Bettman coming here and spouting off doesn't help either even if he is right....the time isn't right unfortunately to build otherwise a shovel would have been in the ground after a proper site was chosen .

Wow. Dumb just dumb.

If they want move then go ahead. Someone else that's not an idiot will just move a new team into this great hockey market.

Someone needs to find that article or interview or whatever where King essentially said they'll handle their arena situation better than Edmonton will, because yeah not so much.

From listening to the interview, I don't think it was much of a threat at this time. King said he was optimistic of getting a deal done with the city. If nothing happens with a new building in the next five or ten years, then I can see it happening unfortunately.

Crappy timing to have this article come out the day after the Flames clinch and the whole town is excited about them.

Doesn't look good on KK. KK's message is basically the non-threat, threat. He should never talk about relocation, but about what the CSEG is doing to work towards a solution.

Not without a new arena they won't.

This is all posturing, and yes - ultimately, if the City and the Flames don't come to an agreement, they will move. It's business.

...it won't happen, because a deal will get done - likely very similar to that of what got done in Edmonton.

There's no reason for people get into a big huff over stuff like this. This is how these go. Calgary doesn't have the population/night life to make an entirely privately funded building make sense like it does in Toronto or Vancouver, so there will need to be some level of assistance. We're going to get a deal similar to the one Edmonton got, we'll get a rad arena, and everyone will be happy.

The interview was on Wednesday. CBC only got around to writing the story today.

Calgary always wants to punch above its weight to prove it is a legitimate big city until it comes to bucking up a few 100 mil for a professional sports and event venue and then it's time to switch to small town mode. Our owners give so much to the community, they built Calgary economically and don't make much off the Flames (Franchise appreciation aside), it's time to buck up and get this done.

The stupid thing is, everone says they're working toward a new arena. Just not Calgary next. So, is he really saying give us Calgary next or we're moving?

No he didn't say that. He said that's their preference but they still haven't heard the cities proposal for Victoria Park. He said he's confident a deal will get done.

No...what he is saying is that the owners aren't using the threat of moving as a tactic.

He is saying that if no arena is ever built, then duh, of course they would move. That isn't news of any sort, or at least shouldn't be to anyone who understands how this works in every single city in North America.

He isn't really saying anything here other than they want to get a new arena...period.

Correct...he's saying they'll move to a worse market and likely cost themselves the exact same amount of amount and likely more in the long term than it would cost for them to build the arena themselves. Moving, unless it's to become Toronto 2, is the very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. If they wanna go with this bluff, call it and force them to lose the money. Cause they will lose money, possibly a lot of money.

Then why make the comment at all? everyone, including the mayor has stated they're working toward building a new arena.

Stick around for another few years ( 3 maybe 4?), let us get the prime years out of Johnny, Mony, Dougie, Tkachuk etc then please pack your bags get the F out of there.

I think Carolina's got a nice young core, forget Quebec, they can move here. We would have Lindholm over Monahan after all.

Yeah I heard it too. What's funny is that it's not even the worst thing he said. If you were to cherry pick a quote like CBC did it was like a kid in a candy store.
