Flames need to shake-up the PP a bit I think. Get Versteeg off the 1st unit and replace him with Hamilton. I get that Gulutzan wants a more 'passing' first unit, but Hamilton passes extremely well too, and you really have to respect his shot. I will never stop being a believer that you need a strong shot from the point on a PP to keep the PK'ers honest and stop them from collapsing down low too soon. Spreads out the PK'ers a bit.

Replace Hamilton on the 2nd unit with Versteeg if you must, but Wideman would fit in there well - he still has good offensive instincts and has a shot that the opposition needs to respect. Just fix the first unit at least and go from there. Sometimes you just need to change things up and breathe new life for a bit.

I agree with most of the posters here - just a sloppy game by the Flames. Maybe they are looking past Nashville at St. Louis, but the whole team was off. I am sure Nashville played a solid home game to help the Flames look sloppier than they really were, but without question that was still a sloppy game by them. Johnson wasn't to blame - he was decent enough to allow the Flames to win, but the Flames didn't do him any favours tonight.

Oh well, just have to look forward to St. Louis. That is going to be a very tough game. Flames can't afford to play sloppy there - heck, Flames can't afford to play sloppy against Colorado either.

Play ####ing Rasmus, no idea why he is here if they won't play him. Seems like he would be better off playing meaningful games in Stockton

Why not put Dougie Hamilton on the first powerplay unit? Hint, hint...he scored the only goal in the game.

I agree here, Versteeg has gone ice cold, and I swear to god the puck just barely squirted out of the zone on the powerplay at that top left point like 5 times in a row.

The way Nash clogged up the center it cut away all of our cross seem passes and we didnt seem to have much of an option up top.

Totally agree with this. They bring players up from Stockton and don't play them. Jankowski was here for a week and got to play one game and sent down. They should not be here if you don't play them. Let them play in Stockton as the team is chasing a playoff spot.

Dave Cameron is sure insistent on doing the same thing despite the fact that it's been up and down all year. Yes it clicked for a month or two there, but should be able to adjust when it's not going right and right now it's ice cold.

How is Troy Brouwer going to help your first unit produce with his 4 points this entire half of the season?

Difference in the game for sure. Doesn't help that there was no urgency crossing the opponent's blue line and unnecessary back/forced passes. Have a set play to get the puck on net quickly and efficiently. Such a lack of creativity as well. And often times no one in front of the net. Or at least not without an opposing D between him and the goalie. How do you expect to get rebounds?

They scored a lot of goals when they used set tic-tac-toe plays to Monahan in the slot.
What happened to that?? They don't even try it any more.

I know he is a rookie but I hope tkachuck learned his lesson from this. losing him hurt this team a lot and thankfully it was only two games

Isn't it always a silly decision to not start your best goalie then? I too would prefer to have seen Elliott, I'd like to see him every game, but that's not realistic he needs to rest. I don't mind your preference, but your assigning blame on the coach because he chose to start the back up, and then you attempt to try and prove that you actually figured what the right decision is painful.

The only thing you've said that was remotely close to accurate was calling me condescending, at least that is accurate.

Can't remember the last time I've seen so much poor passing by the Flames. Perhaps they need to simplify a bit.

Biggest silver lining to me is they held the Preds to 17 shots. You will win more than you lose if you outshoot the opponent every game.

I don't have a problem with the loss. Given the amazing win streak we were on a mini losing streak was due to happen. Thankfully it's happening now as opposed to the playoffs.

Outside of Gio and Hamilton, the defense was just plain bad. Stone and Brodie couldn't move the puck at all tonight, especially Brodie. Bartkowski was a giveaway machine. Engelland was Engelland, but when he's your third best dman on the night, you know there were problems.

Forwards were awful on the back check as well, couldn't move the puck up into the neutral zone at all. Blown coverage and giveaways to blame for all 3 Nashville goals.

Dunno how anyone is blaming Johnson, none of the goals were remotely his fault.

Sloppy, lazy, stupid plays all night from all but a few guys.

I expect a better showing from everyone in St. Louis, but poor Chad really deserved a better effort tonight.

Curious what's the coaching staff's rational behind not stacking the deck with having Gio and Hamilton with our top offensive players. Our PP1 already get majority of the PP time so why not play your best cards in an advantageous situation to score goals.

I could see if they wanted to improve their overall 5v5 play since more PP time means less 5v5 time for our top pairing (and subsequently more time for our other, less amazing pairs) but still puzzling.

Having no threat from the point on the #1 PP makes it easy to defend against.

I think at the very least they should swap the two D between the 2nd and 1st PP units.

Gio and Hamilton? That's a no brainer for the top line. I don't even understand. Of course they'll probably do it now that it's being discussed and pointed out. Could've used a shakeup 2-3 games ago though.

As for positioning, I honestly don't care too much if they get into the top 3 because either way it'll be tough (Anaheim/San Jose) but I like our chances a little bit more against the Sharks.
What terrifies me is dropping to WC2 and playing the Blackhawks. That's an automatic out in 5 games.

Monahan was abysmal.
Versteeg lacks hunger, start going hard after the puck.
Bartowski needs to sit.
PP was brutal.
Brodie needs to step up.

Ferland was great.
Gaudreau was decent.
Brouwer played well.
