Keith Tkachuk obviously taught his son a lot. It is critical to have NHL-ready prospects who can contribute on their ELC instead of spending their ELC on learning the pro game, like Puljarvi.

Seen better games but i take the win. Stone is very important for this team, he's the most physical dman in the team.

I really liked when Ferland hit Hemsky. I feel it is important that Hemsky get hit by someone when he comes to the Saddledome.

Also, TJ Brodie was goddamn amazing on that PK in the 1st period. Played fantastically.

Compare regulation losses with those teams
Winning in Overtime has been around for 34 years, why does it matter if it's 5v5, 4v4, or 3v3 in the end it's still hockey. What changed is they have an extra point to the loser, when OT was still just 2 points for the winner for the majority of those 34 years.

The shootout is where you can call it a bonus point - because those games would have given each team one point in the past - Flamess have at most 2 more of those types of wins when compared to the other teams, nothing crazy.

Personally I would much rather win a game in OT than lose a game in OT but maybe that's just me.

Of course you'd rather win 3v3 or in shootout than lose. This is how they award points, and the Flames are now great in these situations. But playoff hockey is 5v5, so saying the Flames have benefitted in the standings by the bonus point awarded for winning the skills competition that won't benefit them in the playoffs is potentially a valid enough point.

Regulation losses
San Jose 21
Anaheim 23
Nashville 24
Edmonton 24
Calgary 27
St Louis 28
Los Angeles 29

So it's your fault Brodie coughed up that puck then? Because if you called 3-0, Dallas would not have scored!

3 on 3 is dramatically different than 5 on 5. So if you want to simulate playoff conditions, you pretty much throw out what happens after 60 minutes in today's NHL.

No doubt it still counts, but since the NHL changes its rules between regular season and playoffs, it's not unreasonable to look at regulation records as one barometer, of many IMO.

While I'd much rather win in OT then lose as well, I find 3 on 3 every bit as much of a gimmick as the shoot out. And, playoff games sent decided in that fairnat eitger.

As a result I also feel teams that have a higher % of their points in regulation more impressive and more indicative of potential playoff success. I also think the NHL should change the tie braker fro ROW to RW.
