I'd be more curious to see where they'd both be in their development had tables been reversed and Larsson suffered a serious knee injury and Stone remained healthy. I don't think they are that far off. In fact I think if Stone didn't suffer that set back he may actually be better at this point, but if that didn't happen he probably remains on the Coyotes and we probably never acquire him in a trade.
Why do you think one got Taylor Hall and the other got a third round pick with money being retained?
Tbh I was confused at the time. I mean, Larsson is a pretty good defenceman but he benefitted tremendously from playing with Greene. I figured his age plus his draft pedigree suggested untapped potential and that they figured he would develop to a top pairing guy. He's still playing second pairing minutes so, while I am sure Oiler fans are satisfied with the deal, taking McDavid's dominance out of the equation I maintain that they got poor value out of that deal.
Where's your argument again? You're in Derek Wills territory when it comes to evaluating Flames players.
show me how Stone is close to Larsson in the 8 games he's played as a Flame.
I already made my point way back. Their career stat lines are nearly identical. That's 300+ NHL games of recorded data on each player and way more concrete than "I watch them play".

And nobody here (other than The Scorpion) was talking about Stone as a potential UFA signing coming here.
He was even left off the UFA's available thread for next season and not a single poster mentioned Stone in that thread (aside from Scorpion) and he was even ridiculed by a few posters.
If he was on a similar level as Larsson didn't anyone notice before he became a Flame?
This argument sucks because now it looks like I don't like Stone which isn't true, I think he's solidified our back end and I hope we re-sign him.
Flames are on a 9-game winning streak and 14-2-1 in their past 17 games...so basically a ridiculous unsustainable winning streak in order to FINALLY pass the Oilers
Starts with mocking but ends acknowledging the inevitable...it was always just a matter of time. The psyche of an Oilers fan is a fragile place....
So stat lines are more important than watching them play...and you're comparing points for defensive defenceman, really?
You know who had crap stat lines? Robyn Regehr.

You talk a lot but can't come up with one simple piece of decent evidence as to why Larsson is "waaaaaaay" better than Stone.
Alrighty then.

You are completely ignoring the fact that Stone had knee surgery which impacted his development/rise. If it wasn't for that injury who is to say where he would be right now in terms of impact? I don't think the Flames are anybody else for that matter could have traded peanuts for him, before that he was a mainstay on the Coyotes #1 D pairing.
Now you can make a argument due to that Larsson is the better player, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he is "way better". I think the tendency to move on from guys like Stone after such an injury is far more likely if they don't respond well to it due to where they were drafted (3rd round). Larsson not so much cause he was what a top 4 pick?
They are both very similar players that you can put in a shutdown role and neither would look out of place. Given the fact the Oilers gave up Hall for Larsson and the Flames gave up a pick for Stone, in terms of giving up assets to acquire the player, you take Stone every day. It's all relative even when factoring who you'd rather have.
and yes I do watch both of them play.

Funny how 6 or so years ago Babcock singled him out as a player to watch for on the Flames with some good qualities. Seemed like an eyebrow raiser at the time with how ordinary/fringe he was then. Babs saw something way back then.
Team MVP.
Darryl Sutter as well raved about what he saw in Backlund back when he was a raw rookie.

This is Stone's 7th season in the NHL. He had knee surgery as a 26 year old last year and he's almost 27 years old. How did his knee surgery effect his development/rise?

You really just need to stop.
