The FLames have LTIR space but it is tight. They have plenty of assets available. Sharp will not cost that much maybe a 2nd and a weak prospect.
Sharp would be the 4th cup winning former Hawk on the Flames if they traded for him. He won all 3 cups (10. 13, 15) Versteeg won 2 (10, 15) Brouwer and Frolik also won one each (10, 13).

I believe we've got $2.8M only because of LTIR and only for the rest of the season, not?

I would take Sharp over Iggy. That said i don't think the flames are at that point where they should be spending a 2nd rd pick + for a rental.

That $2.8m is us dipping into our LTIR.

The Flames are already using LTIR cap space. The $2.8 million that capfriendly shows that they have is the full season cap hit they can take in at the deadline.
The only way the Flames can fit in Sharp is to have the Stars retain 50% of the salary ($2.95 mil cap hit) and then send someone like Chiasson or F. Hamilton the other way or bury them in the AHL.
Or just move Wideman.

Flames just shouldn't be going after a rental. I hope they're going big game hunting for a long-term piece, or standing pat (...or adding Iginla and extending him for 1 year)

How much room do you think they have to clear to be free of bonus overage penalties next season? I know it depends on who they pick up, but based on who is on the roster now it's not more than a million, right?

I thought posts of trading for Iggy were bad enough. You managed to take it up a notch with a 1 year extension.

What is wrong with that? It could be his 600K-1M retirement contract (especially after shedding a ton of salary in the off season). Man the hate for Iggy is so unjustified in these threads.

You're copying and pasting Capfriendly without any understanding of those numbers.

Big pass on both Iginla and Sharp. I think Sharp, at this point, is better but I think both are well past their best-before date.

Moving on and letting go is one thing. I've moved on from Iginla being the captain of this team. I've moved on from the fact that he was the face of the franchise, the heart and soul of the team. I've moved on from him being our leading point producer, but this is a legitimate topic that we should be discussing. Aside from a great story, he is a legit upgrade over Chaisson for the playoffs. He wants to be a support depth player on a playoff team. We have what he wants. He has what we want. Between Sharp and Iggy, I'd be okay with either, and this is purely objective based. There is nothing wrong with having this conversation.

Quick calculation.
If the bonus overage is $637.5k like projected and assuming no additions to the roster, they have to move out roughly $3.5 million in full season cap hits.
How I got that number:
$642.5k full season cap hit to stop using LTIR
then $2.85 million in full season cap space off the books at the deadline means $637.5k in cap space created from the deadline to the end of the season.
That of course is the bare minimum of salary that iand doesn't allow for callups for the rest of the season. Ideally you would want more than the $3.5 million moved out so you can still do callups during the rest of the regular season.

I disagree with Iggy being an upgrade over Chiasson. Chiasson is bigger, faster, better defensively, they have produced pretty much the same level of offense even though Iginla averages over 2 minutes of PP time and Chiasson averages 47 seconds.

Lets get one thing straight. I have been a flames fan since 1981. Never waivered my love of the team since it came to Calgary. My favourite player to ever wear a flames jersey is Iggy. Getting sick of posters giving the "hate for Iggy" if you think the flames are better off looking to the future than looking at the past.
Also your Iggy signing for $600k extension is laughable.
