That is a great haul for Hanzal, Wild overpayed.

That's way too much for Hanzal and White, but it is a weak draft and Minnesota does have a pretty decent pool of prospects already. When you are as close as they are you go all in.

Could easily look at it as 3 second round picks. A little steep but Minnesota feels like their window is going to be now with the likes of Granlund and Niederreiter needing major raises from their 2nd contracts after this year.

Man I have no idea how they're going to pay for those guys when they're up against the cap already with no major contracts coming off until 2018-2019.

Seriously. Fleeced the wild.

But I guess the Wild are going for it this year. Not often that Minnesota is top dog.

Yeah this is Minnesota's "once in 20 years" type year. They've gotta go for it. That fan base wild deserve it too.

Great pickup for the Wild. They are rightly going all in.

A lot of picks to pay, but unless the Yotes can actually turn some of them into players, it's just a big pile of majic beans at this point.

Looking at the list of UFA forwards, Hanzal is the best centre by far. Not much of a list at all for that specific position. When you see that Arizona is the only one with a quality centre and they know it, it's not unreasonable to see that Minnesota agreed to it. There's no plan B.

Think this is the first time I ever heard a GM admit this:

Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski
WIld GM Fletcher says trade was to help Minnesota but also to keep Hanzel away from rival teams in West.

I still think this played a factor in the Bishop trade as well...although the small return the Lightning got from LA probably speaks to that not being the case.

Also another thing you don't hear often from GMs. Chayka admitting he was able to squeeze out a bit more because they didn't want to include prospects.

Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
Coyotes GM John Chayka: Wild "were willing to just pay a bit of an excess in terms of the picks side of things" for Hanzal over prospects.

Hopefully this blows up in Minnesota's face.

Ever since that shameful game where they played like cowards and injured Johnny, they and their fans can eat ____ sandwiches. Hopefully they will choke and lose all those picks for nothing.

Maybe not. If Sakic's ask is still the same, then it could be considered good value now, relative to what Hanzal returned.

Yeah, but how much worse can they actually get this season? They've pretty much hit rock bottom, with Colorado playing the part of the rock. And Hanzal was going to walk after that anyways.

For 2017-18, this trade won't affect them at all.

Hanzal is overrated and I am glad the Flames didn't try to trade for him. Minnesota I thought gave up a lot for him.

Suter, Parise and Staal are all 32. Koivu is 33. Pominville is 34. Dubnyk is playing at Carey Price levels.

They have no choice. they've got to go for it this year or it's never going to happen. Good luck to them, that market deserves a playoff run.

Dislike this trade - Wild improved I think. Hanzal is a really good defensive center with size, and it makes matching up against them a bit more difficult now for the Flames. It isn't something that 'puts them over the top', but it is a really nice add that allows Boudreau the ability to line-match much more effectively now.

I was hoping Hanzal was going out east. Really dislike him going to the Wild.
