4 point difference and the Flames have the tiebreaker. Certainly within reach now.

Really makes you hate the way the Flames came out completely flat against the Oilers each game this season now though....even just 1 game and they are ahead of them in the standings.

Haha stupid Oilers.

Also, the Blues are already down 2-0 to the Hawks. Could be a good OOT!

To be more precise, 4 shootouts is what separates the Oilers and Flames.

Nice to see Stl down 2 early. Hope to see them crash and burn after the new coach bump.

was thinking the same thing...although it also shows their season is kinda misleading

The SO win was a tossup game, the other 3 were absolutely gifted to them by the Flames

The Flames were better in the SOL.

I see Phaneuf is still a sissy. That was a pretty pathetic display against Thornton.

Oilers are 5-7 since the All-Star break. Flames are 8-2-1.

7 points gained. Only 4 back with the same number of games played.

I don't see why Phaneuf should have dropped the gloves. Did something happen earlier other than Thornton simply wanting g to go?

It would be sweet justice to have the Flames edge the Blues out of a playoff spot, on the back of Elliott

Even if he didn't fight, he could've responded with a lot more physicality than that! That "hit" was about as contrived as I've ever seen.

Not putting too much hope into finishing ahead of the Blues. They have 4 games against the useless Avs and 3 against the Coyotes left.

I am still very happy to see them close games down the stretch. The Flames remain a better bet to overtake the Oilers.

While the Flames still have to play the Kings four times, which could easily be the difference of which team makes the playoff, there's a certain other Albertan NHL team that has to play them three times.

The Oilers schedule includes:
1 game against the Blues (next)
3 games against the Kings
2 games against the Ducks

If they end up with a great record against those teams it helps the Flames, if they end up with a terrible record against those teams, it could mean the Oilers are on the outside looking in.

They also have the Islanders, who are right in the playoff hunt, Penguins, Canadiens, Boston and San Jose x2 to play. I'm sure each of those teams will be on the second of a back-to-back as is usual for teams playing the Oilers, but they don't have a particularly easy schedule ahead.

They get the Canucks x3, Wings, Stars and Avalanche x 2 as non-playoff hopeful teams but hopefully the Canucks want to play spoilers.

If it made them a better team so be it. Lots of flaws were shown during those games, maybe better in the long run because of it.

Definitely saw this coming.

Too good to be true. They were playing off the emotion of the long time coach getting the door. Was surprised how long the surge lasted too.

Hopefully the Blues fall back to give us a little cushion.
