If MAF has told the Pens he would waive for the expansion draft, then I guess this is all moot. There would be no rush to move him.

It's not impossible. Reasonable chance he doesn't get selected and he may not object to Vegas.

Im not sure he agrees to going to vegas. What player chooses to leave a cup contender to go to a team with no chance of winning for the next 5 years.

Kopitar 10.0 until 23/24*

Great Contracts
Quick 5.8 until 22/23
Doughty until 7.0 until 19/20

*Some might put this under terrible contracts and at 10 million/season you wouldn't expect him to be your 3rd leading scorer (likely just a bad season and not a trend however).

Toffoli an RFA after this season.
Pearson an RFA after this season.

No significant contracts off the books after this season.

Lots of work for Lombardi. I really hope LV doesn't get them out of a jam by selecting either Brown or Gaborik and if LA magically getS out of another albatross contract it'll be pretty obvious who Gary's preferred clubs are.

That Brown contract in particular has really got to hurt. If I was McPhee I wouldn't touch that one with a 10 foot pole.

Las Vegas is going to almost have to select players like Gaborik in LA, Bobby Ryan from Ottawa, if they're left unprotected. There's going to be almost no top 6 forward talent available through the expansion draft, and they'll need at least a couple people who can score.

Not to mention that they will need to take some bigger contracts just to get to the salary cap floor.

Gaborik would make a ton of sense for them in such a scenario.

no, they have to draft a min $43.8 (approx) in salary and that works out to average of $1.46 mil per player. if they max out the average would be $2.4 mil per player to reach the max $73 mil.

I think the large bad contracts are not going to be taken unless there is a trade to sweeten the pot for Vegas to do so.

You're counting the caphit of 30 players even though only 23 will be on the roster. Even if the extra 7 players have larger caphits, they do save something like 950k in caphit per contract by putting them in the AHL IIRC.

I think a lot of people will be surprised what players want to go to Vegas. For MAF this would mean he gets the starter role in an area with a lot of things to do personally for him self and his family. Vegas? Yeah if I was a 34+ player this would be a dream destination for me. MAF has his cups, nothing left to prove.

Yeah he might not want to, who really knows, but if he's is ok with being exposed it makes all this trade talk meaningless. At least insofar as Pens giving up assets.

There's really no scenario where he stays as their starter.
