Lucic doesn't fight much, because no one really wants to fight him. The Oilers are a tough team now. They don't get pushed around and McDavid has free will to chirp and play his game.
Lucic's impact is not just measured in the points, the guy has a physical presence. For years the Oilers toiled in failure with all that skill, is it just a coincidence that they finally turn the corner when they add some serious truculence?
Brouwer's response when Stall breaks Gaudreau's hand - C'est la vie, that's hockey, I do it too.
Lucic/Maroon/Kassians response when Manning says some mean words to McDavid - pound Manning at ever chance they get, oh, and win the game as well, funny how they didn't spend the whole night in the penalty box for protecting their star.
McDavid can play his game because the Oilers protect him.
Gaudreau can't play his game because the Flames don't. Gaudreau is a shell of his former self now. He's scared to carry the puck, scared to get hit, scared to break his hand again, leading to all his turnovers and curls into "safe areas" of the ice, as opposed to attacking in the "danger areas".
Hate the Oilers, but am envious of the team philosophy they have built.
Edmonton as a City is still no good though. God what a crap place to live and they have the worst sports commentators/fan/media in the world. (Had to get this last sentence in).

Quoting for truth, but you should know people here think that's the old NHL and doesn't work anymore to which I say.
Try hacking and slashing Crosby and watch 6'5 Sestito chase you around for the rest of the game. Try it on Marner or Nylander in Toronto and watch Martin put you threw the boards or just plain beat the tar out of you. I guarantee none of the skilled guys on Anaheim have anything to worry about, half the team will punish you hard if try anything like what Minny got away with on Gaudreau.
I love the flames but I'm not afraid to say they are gutless and won't win a damn thing until this is fixed. They simply aren't good enough to make you pay on the scoreboard.

I didn't see a response from Toronto in the last game where Marner got hit and slid into the board injuring his shoulder. Marner tried a few more shifts but didn't finish the game. The McDavid Manning thing was a circus manufactured by a frustrated teen. I think the Oilers got away with a lot as the NHL are usually all over this retribution crap.

Sadly, as long as McDavid is on the Oilers you're going to see them continue to get away with a lot. Has the league put McDavid on the list of habitual divers yet? Nope and they never will. I witnessed the same crap in the 80's when it was Gretzky and the Oilers when there was one set of rules for the Oilers and one set of rules for the rest of the league. Sadly it is shaping up the same way again.

Remember when the league was supposed to publicly fine players for diving after the 2nd offence?
That should have been after 2 games for McDavid.

someone here pointed out that when McDavid is on the ice they have +50% possession and when he's not its like 47%.
I can't think of any number that screams unsustainable then that one. Plus it certainly is a high speaking point towards a massive contract as its proof that without McDavid the rest of the Oilers smell like well fermented garbage sustained by above average goaltending by a guy that's going to be played until he breaks.
McDavid and his agent are already shopping for a plutonium powered gold coated Lamborghini and yachts powered by midget slave labor.

The Oilers are definitely much tougher as a team now. Having said that, I know Engelland is tough but he´s no Boogaard of Godard in their prime. Engelland more than stood his own in both tilts with Lucic this year. Did that really deter anyone on the Flames from going after McJesus? It´s not like he beat the tar out of Engelland twice, as tough as they both are, and now the Flames (or any other team for that matter) are scared to make a hit on McSaviour. If Engelland can hang with him, I´m sure he´s not the only one.

I am fairly sure this has to do more with players being concerned about taking penalties for little more than looking in McPastaStrainer's general direction.

Give me a break.
Yes we are bad, but lets be honest, the Oilers are coming off of more then a decade of being the worst franchise in the NHL, one year doesn't prove they've turned the corner, all its proved is they got gifted player after player and that this team is the sum of really three parts. McDavid, Talbot and Draisatl.
I wouldn't be surprised if this team proves unsustainable, and is a one year wonder and is facing serious problems in terms of future depth due to upcoming contracts.
Basically their window to win the cup is this year and next year and after that they'll be forced back into rebuilding because of their gross drafting leaving them with nothing substantial coming up and being forced to trade their few decent players for nothing but cap relief.
As a franchise they deserve no respect for their main move being a quick scan of the Hockey News draft addition when they drafted McDavid.

I'm saying criticizing them these days seems odd. We can't keep digging up the past. Right now they have a generational star, better goalie ( Proven it two seasons now), better coach.
Maybe they are a one year wonder. Unfortunately I think they've finally got it together.

Nope doesn't get old. If we had drafted number 1 4 times in a row like they did anything less than banners in the rafters at this point would be unacceptable. They would need to win 4 cups just to balance out their incompetence.
Now is not the time to get off the Edmonton is no good bandwagon. We didn't get off the Vancouver is no good bandwagon when they were up 3-1 on Boston and we were rewarded with them burning down their city a week later.
The next two years just allows them to fly closer to the sun before making crashing down that much more sweet

Truth. I think Flames fans wouldn'tof put up with that type of incompetence. We'd be looking for blood.

Why are you saying 'we' with 'RedWing' in your username?
What's with non-Flames fans making accounts and pretending to be Flames fans just to make these self deprecating comments? It's not hard to distinguish actual fans raising genuine concerns from trolls in disguise. Just be straight forward if you're not actually a fan. It seems like a total waste of time spurred on by petty hate, or need to overcome some inferiority complex by crapping in another team's fan community.
I know there's some pathetic Oil fans out there that have nothing better to do. But a RW fan? Odd. Judging by the edmonton comments, probably a closet Oiler fan too.

I love how after years of being absolutely nowhere and having a fan forum that was an absolute ghost town the last decade. And now after 2/3 of a winning season and probably 5000 2016/2017 registration dates on said forum some "flames fans" have magically come out of the woodwork to applaud the absolute clown show that goes on up North and the magical resurgence of support for them. You haven't even made the playoffs this year. Go #### yourself and come back when your real team has at least accomplished a clinched playoff berth.
