Purely conspiracy theory on my part but I think ownership has no desire to spend top dollars on top coaches. They will however collectively spend top dollars on several lesser coaches.
Edit - slow typing on my part This is in regards to coach talk several posts up

Brodie needs to be put in a position of strength. Who gives a  if it messes up your R/L pairings, let the guy play on the side where he looks like a Norris candidate. I've tried to defend Gulutzan a little lately but this is just baffling.

So we thought bottom was at the beginning of the season but after growing pains with a new coach and a new system things would get better...
And then it looked like the Flames were solid through December and then they hit the worst streak of play in four years. (Yes, they had a longer losing streak two seasons ago but they weren't that terrible).
Looked like the ship was righted and now...losing 5-0 to bottom two team in the league. This has to be rock-bottom, right?
Because if they don't come back very strong very fast from this between the slide here and in Stockton, the whole management and coaching team needs to be eradicated.
