Default TSN Article - Flames’ Tkachuk unconcerned about growing reputation

http://www.tsn.ca/talent/flames-tkac...ation-1.667949

Been talked about lots, but we have an absolute stud in Tkachuk. Whenever the Flames become a contending team, it's guys like him who will win us a Cup.

I kind of see Tkachuk similar to a Gary Roberts or Stephan Yelle type of quality player. Just impressed with what he does on that line with Backlund and Frolik. I really don't care about him winning that Calder award since it ain't gonna happen anyway. All I know is that the Flames lucked out in getting him last summer and he's the real deal.

Tkachuk is demonstrating what we thought Bennett would.

Talent combined with edge.

The author comes off like a total oiler fan. What a whiner. Oh and he has a head that looks like a football.

Might be my favorite player on the team. Just a young kid who plays like a vet and has the swagger to prove it.

Bennett will be just as valuable as Tkachuk. Both wonderful young players. If Bennett had two excellent line mates like Backlund and Frolik his numbers would look much better. Chiasson is a play killer on whatever line he plays with. Big body, decent speed, but 0 finish and limited passing ability.

Bennett also played a very similar game for most of last year and in the playoffs as a rookie, but with worse linemates.

I'm confident in Bennett's future. He'll figure it out and the team will be dangerous with he and Tkachuk causing havoc with and without the puck.

But yes, Tkachuk is a gem. He's exactly what we need in the top 6. His forechecking alone looks damn near elite, not to mention his offensive instincts from behind the net.

Pretty much. Chaisson needs to be send down to the AHL. If he would actually use his body to hit people he would be effective but he doesn't. His hands are like stone. Bennett has been playing decent recently and is 20 so I'm not too worried about him.

His instincts behind the net are insane. He works so well in tight spaces and along the boards. Him and Bennett are going to be a tough duo to play against in a couple years. I would like to see them play together starting next year.

Yeah Bennett-Backlund-Frolik would be pretty sweet too..

I can't decide if I have patience for Bennett to struggle for awhile but become a good center or to bring Janko up and get Bennett back on the wing..

I think Bennett should start earning the right to play with Tkachuk.

Right now there is no reason to split up the Backlund line.

Staggering to see a teenager wins so many board battles in the NHL.

Countless times I've watched him work the boards and think to myself, oh he's lost that battle, just to see him end up with the puck somehow and make a nifty play right after.

This is the type of stuff that doesn't show up on a highlight reel but sure helps you win.
His ability on the boards especially given his age is amazing.

He will. There is no reason to split them up this season but I would start next season with them together and see how it goes.

I hope our big mean rookie goes after McDavid every time we play them next year. I love the taste of salty Oiler fan tears in the media.

Tkachuk is exactly the type of player we've been missing. Watching him cross the line from time to time makes me smile from ear to ear.

He really has fantastic skill and vision. Some of the plays he's made this season are the type you see from veteran stars as he looks mature beyond his years. You rarely ever see him make minor league moves and try and deke through multiple defenders like Gadreau and Bennett at times are guilty of. I think we can now see why he was getting a lot of buzz going into the draft as there's a lot to like about what he brings to the table. Once players like he and Bennett hit their primes this team should hopefully be in a good place.

The hate he gets from our rivals' fanbases (Oilers and Canucks especially) is the icing on the cake. You just know it's largely rooted in the fact they're pissed off that they didn't draft him when they had the chance. Pool Party and Juolevi will be good players in their own right but a player like Tkachuk doesn't come around all the time. He's quickly grown to be my favourite player on this team; plays with a ton of passion, is physical, hockey IQ through the roof, and doesn't take games off, all as a 19 year old rookie.

Yeah I'm pretty done with Chiasson.. He reminds me SO much of Jones. Big body that doesn't do anything for long stretches and drags his linemates down.

While I get the Roberts comparison I don't get the Yelle one at all. Sure he was a great defensive player but his best offensive season was 26 points. Tkachuk already has 34!
