This. The key is 'before' the expansion draft which doesn't necessarily mean at the trade deadline. Probably more likely between seasons end and the expansion draft. I would like to see the Flames take advantage and pick up at least a goalie or a forward worth protecting.

Well, he did sign with the Sabres last summer, so he shouldn't be too disappointed.

Grant has also now been reassigned to the Sabres AHL affiliate. Can't see him having much of an NHL future anymore. He's become another one of those guys who's good for the AHL but mostly out of his depth at the next level.
That said, the Sabres are awful so he might get another cup of coffee with them this year.
