Who do we have that's a better options than doesn't involve breaking up two lines right now that are actually working?

Again, you are saying Chiasson isn't good enough, I agree. But right now finding a solution is in the GMs hands, not the coaches. The options that aren't Chiasson are also plugs not suited to finishing plays for Johnny either. So stop asking for Chiasson to be sat, when he's actually playing up to his ability and we don't have anyone better to insert, it's frickin painful.

For a guy that doesn't set the world on fire with his defensive play or provide much of a size factor as far as playing heavy in any way shape or form it's not enough imo.

They need the offensive players to produce. That includes doing more than just scoring. You don't see him take a game over or dominate often at all anymore.
Monahan's faceoff ability this year alone makes him worth having in the lineup. That's one of the things that has bothered me the most, watching Bennett taking faceoffs in the offensive zone is basically a guaranteed loss of possession and a pretty easy carry out for the opposing team. This means a good portion of one of our best offensive players (Johnny) shift is spent chasing the opposition around trying to get the puck back, which is not a strong suit for that line as a whole. Bennett is brutal defensively, always loses his coverage which as a center basically means someone is wide open in the slot. At this point in time I hope they can get his value up a bit then flip him for a top line RW or a #4 defenceman. Resign Backlund and keep that line together for the foreseeable future.

benching Monahan. LOL

Anyone who actually plays hockey knows benching your number 1 faceoff guy is a risky move.

It doesn't take playing hockey to realize that basic fact.

Yeah, this was a long time coming.

Bennett got a fair bit of rope and he didnt manage to do anything with it.

I'm hoping he comes back from this with a chip on his shoulder.

Bennett needs to be stronger and more confident, and suffers the same issues Backlund did as a new NHLer. Once his body gets bigger he will win board battles, face offs and looks in the crease. Not every body bulks up right away. It's harder for skinnier guys with high metabolisms. It's a lot of gym, carbs, proteins and steroids. Most skinny guys don't fill out until they're 25-30 yrs old

I hope it's on his good shoulder, or it could be a problem.

No problem with this. As Gulutzan would say, it's a teaching opportunity. Monahan almost became a healthy scratch earlier this year, but then scored against the Islanders which kicked off a hot streak - so it's good to see Monahan/Bennett being held accountable for their on-ice performance, just as Bouma/Monahan/Gaudreau were for their off-ice antics last year. Accountability is important to development. It's nice to see "always earned, never given" reappear.

How does Chaisson keep getting a free pass on the top line? Pathetic.

Implying that unless his value was upped Bennett could not be flipped for a #4 defenseman?

Monahan has other parts of his game where he is needed, such as faceoffs. He underachieved, but you do have spurts from him from time to time. He is also playing as the #1 line so to speak. When was the last time he took a stupid penalty in the offensive zone?

Bennett on the other hand has been a major disappointment and has regressed this year. He was moved to center for the year, the problem is that even with sheltered minutes, he has been atrocious as a center. Bennett started out pretty good at the beginning of the year, but got in penalty trouble and in GG's dog house. He tries to be the man way too often without using his teammates, and because he is not big enough to play his normal game, he is taking holding and tripping penalties.

He needs to be better to play at this level. He had 2 penalties against the Panthers in a game that the Flames were pretty much dominating.

Bennett has zero points in his past 10 games, is a -5, and 10 PIM, and he's playing with Gaudreau right now too. He is supposed to be one of our offence drivers.

Chiasson for all those want him to be benched, has 3 points in 10 games, is -3 and has 2 PIM.

If Chiasson is ineffective, what is Bennett?

Because....well, what are your expectations of Chiasson? What were you anticipating he's accomplish going into this season?

I would wager that Chiasson is pretty much 'product as advertised' whereas Bennett is under-performing.

He couldn't even stay on his skates. I felt bad for the kid, but this was necessary for sure.

He is as advertised but nowhere was he advertised as a #1 RW. He is a 4th liner at best.

He works great as a 3rd line checking winger. Not so much as a top line scoring winger, which is the role that Gulutzan seems to be trying to shoehorn him into.
