With seeing Hathaway dummying Vlasic in front of the Sharks net the other night, me thinks Bouma's time here has expired.

The Flames still need a back-up so I don't really see Elliott going anywhere unless they are out of the race.
And even on the blueline, they aren't going to want to expose their lack of depth - so even trading a guy like Wideman would be a problem.
It really hinges on whether or not they are in the race.
If they are - I see them looking to add- but more of a long-term core piece, where they are willing to give up something of real value to add an impact forward that can help the team now and beyond.
I will suggest Ferland goes along with some other stuff for an upgrade in the forward ranks.
EDIT: I'll go further and predict Ferland+2nd for Ryan Strome.

LOL at Wideman getting a young player and a second. Wideman won;t draw more than a late round pick if he is traded.
The Flames first move will be to bring in a middle 6 forward with some scoring ability as they will still be in the hunt, but won;t want to spend much in the way of assets. I hope it's Iginla who gets rejuvinated in Calgary, but if it isn't think a veteran along the lines of a Patrick Sharp or Martin Hanzal.
Their next move will be a 4-7 defenseman for some depth. Likely another cheaper UFA type like Brendan Smith or Johnny Oduya.
Predictions: Hanzal or Iginla will be first for a 4th, conditional 3rd type deal
Brendan Smith for 6th.

Can you, please, attach a poll with current roster player names (excluding those protected by NTC and the top five - Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Brodie, Hamilton)? It would help illustrate the general opinion of CP'ers and prevent veering off to who should and shouldn't be traded. Thank you.

Hanzal gets more than a 4th or 3rd round pick IMO.

I'd move Monahan before Bennett or Backlund.

A 25+ year old defenceman from a team under the playoff line that can help now for pick+b prospect
If not a d-man, then a winger. That should be Brad's MO.

Wideman for a second rounder or more!?!
For a slow pending UFA who won't be playing on any playoff bound teams top 4, who will be hard pressed to be anything more than a PTO come next training camp, and is in the twilight of his career.....Please.
Hope you won't be too disappointed on trade dead line day when
The flames either get a 4th for him, or (most likely) are stuck with him till his deal runs out.
No GM who has two brain cells to rub together is going to give up actual assets for a guy who is most likely attending next years training camp on a PTO, is in Europe, or retired.

Pretty solid suggestion.
Oduya is Kylingtons friend/mentor/training partner so could be a decent candidate for a short term rental and even subsequent extension.

I'd like to see Versteeg, Ferland and Elliot moved. Don't know the likelihood of any.
Backlund being moved is probably low right now but if long term this Flame don't see him fitting the cap structure I'd like to see the potential return as well.

Monahan is signed at $6.375M for seven seasons. Chances of him being the first player traded this season are pretty much 0%.

I think some of the RFAs in the system that are not working out will be moved for other kids that be evaluated a bit longer without waiver issues.
IMO that's Wotherpsoon.

That is an understatement.
Trading Backlund now would be a serious blow to morale amongst other things. While asset management is crucial, you do have to keep the talent you've developed.

Wideman (50%) for a 4th rounder.
Elliott for a 3rd and a lesser backup on an expiring deal.
Engelland for a 2nd.
If the Flames are out of it, Versteeg for a 3rd+minor league player.
Don't think they move Backlund or Bennett, although I could see Bennett on his way out during the summer for help on the wing (Colorado seems like a good candidate). Don't see anyone biting on Bouma with that extra year left on his contract.

I was wondering about getting Francois Beauchemin now that the Avalanche are in a fire sale. 1 year left after this season at 4.5. The problem is that he has a NMC. If he waived to come here, is it the destination team's descretion on whether to honor that NMC?
Kulikov (BUF), Seidenberg (NYI), Stone (AZ) are UFA rentals to consider as well.
