Default No third jerseys in the NHL next year

Quote:
Multiple sources tell the Star Tribune that all NHL teams will be permitted to have only home and road jerseys next season as Adidas takes over for Reebok as the official outfitter of NHL uniforms. There will be no third jerseys, in order to make the initial implementation of new sweaters easier.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/adidas-...152149551.html

Makes sense, think there wasn't any for the first year of the Reebok Edge jersey's either. They'll likely be back in a year or two

From the same article;

Quote:
The Wild is in the midst of deciding whether to go with red or green home sweaters. If the Wild chooses green, which sounds probable, the jersey likely will be slightly redesigned from the current third jersey.
Come on Calgary. If the Wild can consider it, this decision couldn't be easier. Don't screw this up!

Get rid of the black C and only use the retros at home going forward.

I will personally burn the saddledome to the ground if the Flames choose to keep the black c logo over the retro reds.

Thank the lord. Someone finally reign in the horrible mismash of designs that is the Wild uniforms. Three different jerseys, none of the same design, none have the same logo. It's such a joke they've gone so long like that.

And Ken King please read... do the right thing and just go with our classic jerseys. Come on, it's so simple. Don't design another jersey by committee like the cowboy jersey. You have a winner on your hand with our current retro 3rd, keep it simple, bring back the white one. Don't be stupid, don't try to get clever just be smart.

it makes sense.... why introduce 3 jerseys right away... introduce 2 and lots of fans will immediately pick up one or both of the jerseys

wait a season or two and then come out with thirds and then those same fans will pick up a third. it also gives teams time to gauge peoples reactions to the new jerseys and maybe change things with the thirds

would most fans pick up all 3 at once? i know i would... but i'm not 'normal'. most people likely just grab the home jersey (even the majority of my flames jerseys are red)

it's the exact same with my work - do small design changes in school apparel year to year so kids keep getting their parents to buy them new stuff every year

Thing is, when they bar 3rd jerseys are they really barring retros? Except for this season, the Flames have had a "third" jersey and also the retro.

I can see some teams saying, here's our home and away jerseys. Oh, and for special occasions we pull out retros. Not thirds.

ETA: The story sure implies that teams will only have two jerseys though.

I found this funny:

Calgary Flames: The classic white ‘C’ on the bright red sweater beats the hell out of the dark red with the black ‘C’ logo.

The retro red is the same as the current red - it only looks darker because of the black. I used to think otherwise but was corrected.

I'm sure one-offs will remain. Outdoor games will have their own designs no doubt. Outside of those game they'll probably be scarce though.

I, for one, trust completely that the new design the Flames inevitably come up with instead of just using the retro will be fantastic.

Fantastic.

It's too bad with all these jersey changes coming that the Icethetics website appears to be no longer updated.

Totally agree, but I wish people wouldn't call it the cowboy jersey. It's a Walmart jersey. It's what you see a 7 year olds wear who's patents don't follow sports or understand hockey. It's so awful

I prob bang this drum several times a year and to my friends in person but I just wish the god damn league would let the fans have what they want. The fans have spoken: classic simple designs are the best. Pittsburgh learned that, Edmonton, and lots of NFL teams.

Stop with this ugly ####ing piping. Stop with the ultra complicated designs. Jesus look at Tampa. That jersey is just fantastic. Can we have more of that please? Can we have the Flames in their retros full time and the Jets the same??\

Every other business model in the worlds motto "give the customers want they want"
NHL motto: "#### you, pay me for this ugly garbage"

Isn't this the same thing they did when Reebok took over the jerseys in 2006-07, no thirds? Makes sense, they want people to want to buy the updated jersey. And between this news and the timing of the Flames bringing back their retros right before the change, I'm hoping there's a pattern forming..
