It's called churn journalism, and sadly everybody does it now. Someone tweeting about a Facebook post about a news story on another site is presented as news.

Yes, I have read, well any major news site in the last 2 years, it still doesn't excuse the CBC.
It is pathetic.

CBC online content unfortunately now has the journalistic quality of Buzzfeed.

It's not much different that when they used to go out on the street and interview everyday citizens. The only difference is they get to pick the absolute worst of the worst, rather than whatever is walking down the street at the time. I've seen plenty of interviews through the years of citizens that are of a similar level, though.

Its a big difference, and you nailed it in your post then minimized it.
A random sample of 'street walkers' are not likely to give you consistently the most crazy responses.

So Ward Sutherland blocked someone on Twitter who disagrees with him on the Cycletrack and then tweeted about it.
I don't think I am oversimplifying what happened, but please point out if I am! I went through a few of Mike's tweets, and found nothing inappropriate, so if you know of something that makes Ward justified by blocking voters, please post!

Ward Sutherland is the Councillor for my Ward, and he lost my vote a long time ago due to stuff like this, and his general opposition to what I normally support. I've sort of followed some of his tweets, he seems quick to crow about stuff he likes and dumps on the things he doesn't like. His whole attitude seems pretty flippant but maybe that's just how Twitter makes people come across.

Morrision is pretty annoying but that's some sensitive stuff from Sutherland.
Amazing these councilors actively shield themselves from opposing views. Guys like Sutherland and Chu are terrible for this city.

I do wish they'd agreed to move the damn bike track from 12 Ave to 10 Ave. 12 Ave has been a pain in the ass since that thing went in.
Full disclosure: My building is along 12 Ave, so I get to deal with it on a regular basis.

Sorry for the non cycle track related post but not sure where else to ask...
If I call 311 and complain about insane timing of a light by my house, will anyone actually fix it?
I live near a shopping centre and one direction of the light recently was at least doubled in length. Now, myself and 200 other cars have to wait while that light sits green for an eternity and no cars leave the shopping centre. And the light heading my direction isn't half as long as it should be as hardly anyone heading my direction gets thru the light. I'm actually half convinced they got the timing for the directions wrong. It is causing huge backups everyday on my way home from work and has been for a month. I have no idea why this was changed, it seems totally idiotic.

They have a specific spot online for 311 light timing. I filed one, and the status is currently "someone is checking the logs," so I can't confirm it will be changed. Worth a try though.

This is a good question. Yes, someone will be directed to look into it. The outcome may be, however, that they decide it doesn't need to be "fixed" (ie: it's operating as it should). But, it is very possible they will go about fixing it as soon as they can. Either way, it is 311 policy that you get a response of some kind once there is an outcome.
Also: thanks for calling 311 to complain. Too often, no one does that. They just grumble that something is broken and complain about it with neighbours. But The City doesn't know these things unless someone raises them.

He must be getting tips from Nenshi. He blocks anyone who disagrees with him.

I work for Mayor Nenshi, ask me anything!
Couple of random comments/ thoughts:
- the pot holes and sink holes are worse this year than years past, although progress seems to be made to fix them.
- Random roads are getting repaved that don't need to be while others that should get repaved aren't planned to. 68 St NE south of 16 Ave NE is getting repaved which totally was fine, while areas like Heritage Dr between Deerfoot and Heritage Gate SE is in horrible shape.
- the grass on city property is not getting cut nearly as often as it should.
- the new LED streetlights are quite problematic and seem to have a high failure rate, from my observations.
- what's up with the 4 St SW underpass construction? The east sidewalk has been closed for months and months and there is zero construction happening.

Living in Mission these two traffic problems drive me crazy:
1. On northbound Macleod Trail at Mission Road you can only turn left on a flashing green arrow. That makes sense during periods of heavy traffic on southbound Macleod coming down Cemetery Hill. But during the evening and late at night there is no reason why there can't be a solid green for turning left onto Mission Road. Often I find myself sitting alone in the left turn lane with no traffic at all waiting like an idiot for the green arrow, which takes at least five minutes to cycle through.
2. On northbound 4 Street why can't they sync the lights at 10, 11 and 12 Avenues so you can make it through into the core without getting stuck on red at 10 Avenue?

If it's a noise issue they should ban those little Japanese cars with big pipes, so annoying!
