I like Nostalgia, and I like Iginla. Even if it wasn't the best idea, if it doesn't handcuff the team's future I would love nothing more than to see him play some games and retire a Flame.

I would make a crummy GM because I like stories like these. I am emotionally invested in this team and lots of players, past and present. Sometimes business side be damned. I'd love to see him back!

Except in this scenario we're the ones doing fine.

Fair question and I'll honestly say no, I haven't seen him play that much this season. However since I haven't liked his game for a while now, I feel what little I've seen recently is likely to be a good indicator of what he is now.

I mean sure, he'd probably be somewhat energized from coming back to Calgary, at least for a while. Maybe it would last, maybe with the right linemates etc. Too many maybe's for my taste, considering the risk.

Mike Chambers @MikeChambers
Coming off 1,500th game last nite, Jarome Iginla appears scratched for #Avs here in TOR. Not among 12 Fs in warmup. He's 3-3--6 in 26 games.

Wow, would that be his first healthy scratch since his young days?

BREAKING: Avs trade of Iginla to Flames is imminent.

We need to get bigger and tougher on our wings if we expect to compete with St Louis, LA, Anaheim amongst others in the playoffs.

Iginla does that.

He also can moonlight on the pp and the occasional shift on the first line.

He also gives the team a person to rally around. He is a true pro and knows how to handle the Calgary market. His fitness is still top notch.

I have zero concerns that he'd be a distraction and i'd love guys like Bennett, Tkachuk, Gaudreau and Monahan to learn how to be a pro year round from a first ballot hall of famer.

I'd be all for trading for Iginla. I think the price will be higher than people on here expect for all of the above reasons.

Bringing Iginla back to the Flames right now is like giving Theo Fleury a contract after his comeback try-out a few years back.

Some I would love for nostalgic reasons, but makes no hockey sense....

Bigger and tougher on the wings = Brouwer, Chaisson, Tkatchuk, Hathaway, also Ferland. Bouma is gritty. And Frolik is tough enough, in the strong forechecker sense. The only smallish wingers now are Gaudreau and Versteeg.

If Iginla could literally just pace around the right circle on the PP and unload his bombs, he'd be worth his last few months of his contract. The nostalgia factor is just a massive bonus. Besides, he historically always improves as the year progresses.

I love Iginla but please do not bring him back to Calgary. The Flames have no need for an aging slow 3rd line winger. If the Flames are going for a rental they need a 4th dman or a younger winger they could look at re-signing.

That can't feel good. But you bring him home and let Johnny feed him on the power play and see if that doesn't put a spring in his step.

For ####s sake people, we once brought back Craig Conroy, just because. And then made him Assistant GM, just because!

Get Iginla for the stretch drive, and then kick him upstairs to close the arena deal.

This will cost nothing. It's an easy decision.
This post received a lot of thanks, and that's troubling. This post is beyond awful.

Craig Conroy was not brought in "just because". There were organizational needs and Conroy among other things is a good communicator. I assure you not even one member of the Flames executive would say Conroy was brought in "just because". That makes this such a silly post. But it got lots of thanks.

And it suggested that somehow having Iginla on the Flames payroll, which will happen after this season, gets a taxpayer funded arena. For those who thanked this awful post, salute yourselves, morons! (I'm trying to be mildly funny here despite the strong language.)

And if you're actually in the playoff hunt, you don't take on a player just because they were a great player in that generation -- that generation is no longer going to win you a cup. And I love Iggy. My favourite player of all time in fact.

Gaudreau feeding Iginla on the powerplay might be a good thing, but why experiment? Gaudreau is already climbing towards the numbers he hit last year after a slow start and then an injury. The team's positions are for those who can make things happen, and you don't take on a five million dollar Iginla unless he's producing, and he's, sadly, not.

Then the big irony of the post "it will cost nothing". That's because taking the salary on is a penalty of its own.

Iginla and Colbourne (to reference the post this commented upon) combine for 6 goals and 4 assists to date with a combined salary of 7.5 million? That is atrocious.

I really like both of them. But you only take Iggy on if you truly think he will suddenly become like he was in years past.

Chaisson is one of the softest players we've seen in a long time.
Bouma will be hurt.

If you think that is enough toughness then start booking April tee times now.

Iggy cannot help this team in any way.
He would have to play 3/4th line, and that would kill him.
The current roster is better than him at this point of his career.
Bringing him here would just be a distraction that the Flames don't need right now.

Not to derail but that's completely false. I don't know which games your watching but Chiasson has been plenty physical. Regularly finishes his checks and most notably has a great reverse check that's put plenty of tough guys on their butts.
