7 Humboldt Penguins die from drowning at the Calgary Zoo
We are deeply saddened to share news of the deaths of seven Humboldt penguins. http://bit.ly/2hkVwVX

We are deeply saddened to share news of the deaths of seven Humboldt penguins discovered in Penguin Plunge this morning. We have launched a full investigation and will share the results once it has been completed
The birds were in their back holding area, which is regularly used to house the penguins. Our Veterinary Team has completed necropsies on all the birds and the results have determined the birds died as a result of drowning.

Wow. Thats odd. You wouldnt imagine Penguins would die from drowning.
Going in the water and coming right back out again is like 90% of what they do.

Yeah, theres some pieces missing here. I'm really hoping this wasnt Human Negligence, but it does seem like the most likely reason.

If I was a zoo wild animal, I would be really scared, when being told I'm being sold/transferred to Calgary.

I have no idea what the zoo specific statistics are, but I know a lot of zoos don't press release when an animal dies. The Calgary zoo has a policy to press release all animal deaths I think, even ones from natural causes.

They found water in their lungs; so, the statement is accurate. If one has a heart attack and falls into water, chances are he'd die from drowning, not from a heart attack. Why were they not able to swim up is the question, of course. Very sad news, indeed...

Wow are you seriously posting the photo of a guy along with the insinuation that these birds died at least in part due to his incompetence without one single shred of proof or any knowledge whatsoever about these deaths? That is absolutely brutal.
