To me it seemed like he wasn't expecting the pass at all, didn't see who passed it, but they really should have shot, either that or dished it to Versteeg way earlier on the play. I can't find much fault with Monahan there.
Edit: After seeing the replay, Brouwer shouldn't have even passed it at all there. It's not like Monahan can blast it through the defender's torso, Brouwer took a good chance and turned it into nothing.

What? Dropping to the trailer was the most predictable play there. He should have either shot or passed it right away. Instead he waited too long and feathered a pass into the defenders stick. Defender shouldn't have a chance to touch it 3-1.

He got the puck early...had lots of time to dish it or shoot. Waited too long and got in too close imo

Uhh, no, did you watch the play at all? I've jumped on him many times this year, that was a legitimate good opportunity turned into nothing by Brouwer. You can't really argue otherwise, Brouwer literally had a clear shot at the net, and instead gave the leafs defender the opportunity to drop in front of the play and end the threat. No use dwelling on it regardless. Would have been nice is all.
And yes, dropping to the trailer was the most predictable play there, shouldn't have been done in the first place.
