I hadn't heard anywhere that he had died. You'd think someone in the Calgary media would have mentioned it.

Since "hate" is a strong word, and I don't use this word lightly. So, these are the players I dislike the most. (The list is in alphabetical order, not the order of my dislike)
Drury
Gilmour
Higgins -- liked him the short time he was with the Flames, but then he decided to sign with the Canucks instead of the Flames
Kidd
Stuart

I never thought I would hate a player as much as Eriksson, then Jay Bouwmeester came around!

Tim Hunter? That's an odd one.

I am both surprised and not surprised with all the Gary Leeman hate. A trade that jettisoned a few fan favorites (Gilmour, Macoun, Nattress and Walmsley were all players I liked) and returned only one guy that fans ended up liking - Craig Berube.
Leeman was the headliner in that trade for sure, but I always felt so sorry for him. Apparently he was so rattled from that trade and from all the expectations, that it just made it even worse. I just always felt sorry for him. Not his the old Flames' GM fleeced the new Flames' GM so badly in that horribly lopsided trade. I can hate Risebrough for it (and I used to really love him as a player) and I can hate Fletcher for that fleecing (though it is hard to hate a guy who built THAT team that brought the cup here), but I just find it difficult to hate Leeman.
I hated the event more than anything, I guess.

Vernon, Gilmour, Fleury, Kidd, ... Bouwmeester I guess, though it's hard to feel any sort of emotion toward a player that had none.

I can't hate Staios.
The nice thing about trading draft picks to the Oilers is that you never have to regret later that they took someone good.

This. Could you imagine if we had him the whole time instead of Wideman?
Giordano - Brodie
Bouwmeester - Hamilton
Jokipakka - Engelland

You're just pissed off that someone had a D on the list ahead of Hamilton and Bouwmeester.
Poor soul.

I didn't really follow for a few years (Keenan and Brent Sutter years) so probably missed a few that a lot of people would point too right away. So for me;
Chris Butler - Just so so awful. Probably the worst D man I've ever watched. Yes, some blame could be on coaching/managment for making him play way over his head, but the whole league was over his head.
Bryan Marchment - D-bag
Mason Raymond Hated his game. Debated not putting him here, and I will give him credit for taking his AHL demotion like a champ, but whining in the media afterward kind of washed that out for me. At least he waited until he was gone to complain, I'll give him that, but still. Watching him fall down and turn pucks over again and again is something I won't forget for a while.
Rene Bourque - When he was on he was good. But so inconsistant and didn't like his work ethic
SOB - Bad on and off the ice. Despite being buried in the A and having a low salary, the team bought him out so his poor work ethic wouldn't rub off on the kids in the AHL. That sums it up. I'd have him higher on this list, but the year he was here the team was crap anyway so it's not like he held them back from anything

Why did you dislike Kidd & Vernon? Especially since Vernon brought us a cup.

That would be miles better than what we have. Not every defenseman has to be super physical to be effective.

It isn't name the 5 worst players . How is hating bouwmeester having anything to do with having Wideman as our 4th D?

5. Mike Leclerc - what a bum.
4. Anders Eriksson - You know what the worst part about Anders is? Darryl signed him to a one-year deal heading into the lockout, and he never played a game for us. But Darryl knows best, he didn't look at that as a bullet dodged, he went and found the bullet, put more gunpowder in it, a new shell casing, handed it back to the man with the gun, and then put the apple back on his head.
3. Jonas Hiller - quit on this team a month + before the season was over. F*** that guy.
2. Jeff Friesen - utter utter waste of space. And he put his pants on AFTER his skates, so the insides were all torn up and gross. Idiot.
1. Jay Bouwmeester - was never once the best player on the ice. Not once. It's not the lack of physical play, it's the apparent unwillingness to profoundly impact the game at any level. No offensive creativity, muffin shot, and no sense for the moment. The Flames played the Sharks at the end of the year, in a game they HAD to have to stay alive. It was 3-0 after 1 and Bouw made two godawful defensive plays that led directly to goals. People wonder why the hate for a guy who was good but not great - the reason is simple. Outwardly, the only reason he isn't great is because he appears to not want to be. And that brings out some kind of visceral reaction.
