We have artificially cheap power because Emnax decided to build an unprofitable generator.

I agree. I was listening to Rob Brakenridge's show (because I find it half amusing) over lunch and they were piling on the NDP for doing this. The reasoning was that this was going to put more people out of work. Also, you can tell these guys to beat it anytime when they come to your door.

Companies were by and large committing fraud legally. Just showing them your bill could result in them changing you over. Thankfully this site warned me of that otherwise I may have been switched just kicking the tires. That is totally wrong, and should be banned. I really think it is only the hard line conservative cess that can hate this.

I have been against just about everything Notley has done, but this one is a no brainier. Who feels sorry for companies training employees to be unethical and unleashing them to your front door? I had to turn his show off it was getting to be a bit much even for him.

Do we end up revenue neutral in Calgary because each dollar the AB gov lost Enmax and the city of Calgary gained?
It could be the reverse as the province robs peter (cities) to pay Paul (rural).

Big property tax increase coming for Calgary this year after a big one last year.

Shouldn't we just ban door to door sales as a sales method in general.

In general door to door sales goal is to take advantage of people who are too polite to slam the door in someone's face so they comply with the requests.

Is there any value created in it?

Breakenridge is actually pretty centrist, he's fiscally conservative and socially liberal. QR77 has changed completely from the days of Rutherford and Adler.

The market liked the settlement for one of those companies. Capital Power stock up 9.58% today after yesterday's end of day announcement.

I think they were at about $26/share and when the NDP were elected, dropped to 17 fast. Now they're $23.44.

I would agree, but I find the fiscal conservatism has turned almost ideological lately. I used to really like it since his takes really married up with mine. To be clear I am all for listening to decenting views. However, it has been so crotchety lately, and the (conservative crazy) callers he usually would pick apart he's been going with.

Anyways, that is off topic but I did find the comments on people losing their jobs a bit much.

Quote:
Wildrose Leader Brian Jean says laptops were stolen during a recent break-in of the party’s Edmonton office, and an attempt was made at the same time to steal a computer server.

The laptops were password-protected, Jean wrote in a letter emailed to supporters, and the party doesn’t believe any personal data was lost in the break-in — described as taking place a “number of weeks ago.” The computers did not contain any credit card information.

However, Jean went on to state that “we cannot be certain” there was no breach and the server has been moved to a “high-security location.

He then added that Wildrose members have been receiving unsolicited letters from “another political party” and has directed staff to take steps to “protect our lists.”

In the same letter, Jean also briefly addressed the ongoing efforts to “consolidate conservatives across Alberta.”

He wrote that Wildrose members have reported receiving unsolicited calls claiming that Jean is urging his supporters to vote in the Progressive Conservative leadership race.
Original breaking of the story came from:

Something really stinks about tying an alleged break in to the unsolicited emails WR members have received.

It sounds shady.

NDP proposes even tougher campaign finance and spending laws aimed to prevent the other parties from gaining an advantage on them:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmont...tics-1.3871491

Of note:
- Almost no bill that uses the word "fair" in the title actually is.
- Reduces the individual cap on donations by 73-83%
- Limits entire party spending in an election to $2 million and on any single candidate to $50k.
- Severely limits third-party advertising during an election year, but sets no limit at all outside of one. I'm guessing that is to protect public unions' ability to advertise freely.
-The lack of a non-election year cap is designed to try and prevent a constitutional challenge. Except, as a layman, I think they sink themselves with their own argument. Section 2 of the charter does not get suspended in an election year, so by implicitly arguing that spending caps are unconstitutional in non-election years, the NDP similarly makes an implict argument this bill is unconstitutional in an election year.
-Only Alberta-based donors are blocked. If you're from outside Alberta? Sky's the limit!
-Seeks to interfere with the internal party processes by forcing any declared candidate for any party's leadership to disclose spending and donors.
-And, of course, no limits on government advertising, even in an election year. Because Notley doesn't want to have to play by the same rules she intends to hold everyone else to.

Well when you get in on a protest vote and know you won't win again you gotta change the rules as much as you can to have any hope.

This is the party of not only stupid but corrupt. They're certainly trying to tilt the table in their favor.

Especially when you consider that suddenly in the election year you get a lot of ads from "Friends of Health Care" and "Friends of Education" which are financed by the unions.

On top of that the whole third party banning of dollars except for organizations outside of Alberta is specifically aimed at activist groups and their financiers like Tides.

I would expect that the minute that this bill is passed that the opposition parties will be suing the government.
