It almost looks modular so it can easily be taken apart and moved if necessary.

So much salt in this thread. You all wish we had anything close to an announcement to an arena that sexy

I think there were lighthearted pokes at the arena design, but wasn't the general sentiment that it looked nice?

I love the irony of Jets fans casting stones from their glass houses. I mean, it isn't like you lost a team once due to lack of fan interest, lack of arena and lack of ownership or anything.

We lost our team from a lack of arena and an owner. Not fan interest.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes have wasted hundreds of millions of tax payers dollars on a team no one there gives a crap about. Ya, perfectly cromulent comparison.

The Jets frequently averaged less than 13,000 per game, and in their final - admittedly lame duck - season, barely 11,000. At no point in their NHL tenure did they average 90% capacity. Yes, the arena was awful and had obstructed view seats. But that explains only so much.

I always understood the averge joe fan was fairly well represented but not the corporate patronage.

No, it really does. The upper deck was terrible. Obstructed seating and the slope was insane. Winnipeg Arena was originally built as an 11k arena with one level. They frankensteined the arena into a ugly mess to get it to NHL standards.

Pretty sad that I saw this post word for word when I hit reply..

This is massive news for the market and for the future of hockey in AZ.

Any others?
Them too, but I was talking about Arizona specifically.

I got a bagged lunch and a bottle of perrier to sit through the CalgaryNext presentation made exclusively to season ticket holders.
Afterwards I was pro Calgary Next.

A week later after the memory of the delicious food wore off, I started to question the quality of the presentation and arena renderings

Coyotes are contributing $100-$170 million. Asking the rest be financed by a new municipal tax district which the team claims is expected to bring in $350 to $750 million via sales tax.

They are also asking that for the tax money to pay for at least one hotel and then potentially other commercial real estate development (in addition to the arena).

A lot of people here have probably never been to Phoenix or understand how the location of the team really hinders the ability to draw good crowds. I totally understand the mentality of "enough already just move the team", but I personally believe it can be a success if put in the right situation. I think the idea of building the arena beside ASU campus in Tempe, where 50 thousand plus students attend is a great idea.

Oh, I don't actually care about the old Jets and all their problems. I was simply noting that, as usual, you live under the delusion that your crap doesn't stink.

Students who are fans and went to games regularly while in school because the games were right near campus and the team was very visible, buy season tickets once they have graduated and have a paying job.

The whole marketing to a younger audience so they grow up as fans and are still interested in the game once they have credit cards is real.
