7 of the last 16 Hart Trophy winners have not won the Stanley Cup. Hockey is more of a team game than you will admit.
But, all but two of them have been to the Finals, so that is supportive of your point.

Hockey is very much so a team game. Personally I think one star changes the dynamic more for hockey vs baseball. Not much more to say.

Haha, is there a more fair, understanding and level headed debater on CP than troutman? You can't ask for much more in posting quality than what he offers.

Not sure if I read it correctly but browsing the ol' boards Oilers fans were already discussing potential playoff matchups, and under the assumption that they land 1st in the division.
Had to rub my eyes a couple times. Then reminded myself of the team that was being discussed.
They be brewing a big ol' pot of bad juju up there. November is going to eat their dreams alive..

Those early games against the Flames sure inflated those early stats.
I also caught a bit of the NYR game and Puljujarvi looks like he is struggling at the NHL level. He has played in 9 games so far so it will be interesting to see if they decide to burn a year of the ELC and keep him up (which would surprise me with the option to go to the AHL). I guess we will see on Sunday how no good the management team is.

If he plays in the AHL that also burns a year if I am not mistaken. The only way it slides is if he goes back to Europe or the CHL. AHL is still a pro league

Puljuarvi doesn't belong in the NHL at all right now, but Oilers gotta Oilers. Another Draisatl situation.

I am pretty sure that his age makes it slide. Kyington was in the same position last year and his slid.

Talbot has been lights out.
I would also argue that they have had a fair bit of puck luck so far this year.

My buddy is a huge Oilers fan (level headed) and he also agrees. Thinks Puju hasn't looked very good and needs some development time in the minors

And yes, those two games against the Flames count as well - all games count. All I am saying is that early starts - either good or bad - can really skew stats for a while.

I think that the reports were that JP was terrible in training camp and looked really unready for the NHL, but because the Oilers don't have a deep group they needed JP to play in the NHL, especially with the trading of Hall and Yak.
I've watched a few games and he hasn't looked NHL ready and the game is moving too fast for him.
As far as the general oiliness of things, we knew that they would slide that they weren't a 7-1 or 7-2 team going forward. But this team is still sloppy defensively, still too soft, and the blueline is starting to look fairly suspect.
Talbot has been in superman mode, but he's going to eventually melt down too.

Rough schedule ahead:
@ NYI
@ DET
@ PIT
DAL
NYR
@ ANA
@ LA
@ DAL
CHI
Should be below .500 by the end of that.

Talbot was also lights out for an extended period early last year. Then it all came crashing down.

Yikes. Even if I try to set my bias aside, I'm having trouble imagining them doing much better than 3-6 in that stretch. They really need those first two games.
