So were we, and sat in the eventual winning spot until the last day of the season when Winnipeg came back to win from a big hole and we "passed" them in the reverse standings. Matthews or Laine would've looked amazing in red. But Tkachuk was still an extremely pleasant surprise as a "next best thing" option. Still can't believe how picks 3-6 played out in that draft.

what a rollercoaster that was. I still remember that sweet transition from "NOOOOOO!!!!!" to "YEEEEEEES!!!!!" when Dim Jim said "from the London Knights ... Olli Juolevi!"

I was talking about the actual draft lottery numbers, not draft position prior to the lottery.

I remember reading somewhere that the Oilers combo of numbers was very close to being drawn again which would have gifted them Matthews.

The Canucks look like they really need a tough young player with skill and passed on him for a Finnish defenceman. Finnish defenceman rarely ever translate their game to the NHL especially to the level of what will be expected from such a high draft pick.

Man, that crap used to happen all the time in the Young Guns era. I still avoid establishments that pulled that on me. Looking at you, Schanks.

I actually think the Canucks made the right move taking a dman. They had recently spent high picks on Boeser, Virtanen, Shinkaruk and traded for Baertschi. Can you build around a team of all wingers? Franchise dmen are almost impossible to find. I really think the Canucks had to draft a franchise centre or dman this draft with the depth in the organization where it was.

I explained my reasoning to Cancuks fans prior to the draft and they laughed me off. Whether they took the right defenceman is up in the air but I think once Dubois was gone (the franchise centre they wanted) that a dman was correct for them based on how hard it is to get young franchise dmen.

It has been a slow start for Dubois this season. Seven games since returning to the Q, and only 1 goal and 4 points.

Hopefully this game against Ottawa is the begining of some mean reversion

I know this goes against the grain of the thread, but to see Talbot stay out and give Craig Anderson an ovation when he was named a game star was pretty great to see. Much respect.

Nice to see McDavid fall back to earth on the scoresheet too. He's still 1st in the league, but his PPG is starting to bleed.

He'll probably go back to being a 40 point to player.

Each season there's a handful of 1.3-1.5 PPG guys in the first month or two. They always come back down to earth a bit by the quarter season mark. McDavid will be no exception, despite what people around the Kool-Aid stand may think. Also take into account literally half of his points came in those first two terribad Calgary games.

McDavid will be the exception because he's exceptional. If you watched that game at all you saw he could easily have had 4 points, bounces just didn't go and finish didn't happen. I'm not saying he'll necessarily be a 1.5 ppg player, but even that isn't outside the realm of possibility, and I'd be pretty surprised if he winds up with under a ppg.

^ Yeah but he will probably regress to being just the best player in the league
