Yeah the praise of the defensemen is really not warranted. I have to believe Gio will pick it up. And Brodie is good, just not a great couple of games. And Engelland//Jokipakka are a serviceable bottom pairing. But Wideman is a liability and I'm starting to think Hamilton is seriously overrated. Making the overall D very average. And expensive.
But these two games can be traced to one thing: This team had a horrible training camp and pre season.

Not that I'm blaming the loss on those two specifically, but if they don't start putting up some points, we're in trouble.

Monahan scored and Gaudreau assisted on it.
The problem is the defence. 12 goals against in 2 games.

Still think Hartley was let go too soon. I'll admit I still know too little about this new guy to form an opinion, however it's not exactly looking good thus far. Not that the coach has to take all the blame, but this... "system" isn't exactly playing to strengths this team has had years past. Seems like building off of those would be a good start.
This keeps up for another handful of games and we may dig ourselves a hole that as years past have shown to be near impossible to climb out of. They really have to figure this out asap since they didn't feel the need in the preseason.
*Not doom and gloom yet, but if we are still saying this 10 games in it very well could be.

Even though we have nobody else to replace him, Tkachuk probably shouldn't be spending the season in the NHL. If we're going to blow another season, there's no reaaon to blow a year in his ELC.

I'm sure Elliot won't be giving out Christmas cards to his D men.

So is Brian Elliott a terrible goaltender or maybe the Flames issues are deeper than goaltending?

So far two games in the defense has looked really slow. And that's all the defensemen not just Wideman. Wideman has had a tough two games to start the season. He hasn't really been the same since the suspension last season. It seems like he still hasn't mentally recovered from feeling of letting the team down or something.
Having three players on our top line combine for one preseason game has shown it's effect in their play. Can see flashes of them coming together and nothing happens.
Big game tomorrow may only be the third game of the season but a three game losing streak to the Oilers and Nucks is going to hurt.

Flames making the Oilers look a lot better than they are so far.
Rusty, rusty.
Lack of gelling time noticeable.

Lots of issues with the game, lots of good too. Right now Gaudreau compared to McDavid isn't even close, even when the Flames contain him well, he makes a difference. Johnny invisible, non factor.

Agreed but Gulutzan isn't exactly showing us he can work effectively with what he has. I fear this is going to be a very long season.

I didn't like Hartley, but at least you knew he would hold the team responsible for performances like these.
I hope we can see a grumpy Gulutzan tomorrow.

Hartley would have never allowed this team to lose two in a row to the damn Oilers.

New coaches, new system, some new players. It is going to take time for it to come together but I still think it will and we will be fine. I am not ready to hit the panic button yet.

Why is Wideman on this team? The coaches/management have to be seeing what everyone else is aren't they? Put his ass in the pressbox and play Kulak/Wotherspoon. They can't be any worse.
Just brutal. Off to another fabulous start to the season again. 12 goals against and 0 points to a rival and they now have to go to Vancouver for their home opener tomorrow night.
Not sure what this system Gulutzan is trying to implement but FFS, can we stop giving up so many breakaways?
Yes it's only 2 games but we go through this year after year. I'm sick of playing catch up after terrible starts to the season.
