How is Gaudreau different from every other young NHL player when it comes to business acumen?

Wrong.
When I say down year, we didn't win the cup. The Flames were expected to at least place in the finals and lost in the first round to LA. Back then, that was a huge upset for everyone. The talk of a Calgary dynasty collapsed. They didn't get the Presidents trophy. However, to you the team was successful, perhaps by today's standard it would have been.
I was not wrong about the Risebrough-Gilmour contract talks, you are. Gilmour's arbitration talk were bitter and didn't get the results he wanted. An impasse hit, Gilmour took the stance he wouldn't play for the team again and went to the sidelines. The Flames panicked and put Gilmour to market. Fletcher (now with the Leafs) jumped at the deal.
I hope the Flames don't torch Geaudreau like they did Gilmour.

He's not, but he's the only star player in the unenviable position of being a 10.2 (c) player.
I'm not sure the league has every had this situation before. A team with all the leverage, a player with decent comparables making serious money on their second contracts.
In other situations the team and agent would probably come up with a decent deal for both sides and the agent would encourage the player to sign the contract.
In this situation, you have some disparity between the two sides and a player that might not know when to trust his agent and when to disregard his opinions.

Ignorance at its finest. Have you ever met him? Dealt with him?
He's like any business leader who didn't have things handed to him. Exceptionally calculating, charismatic, fair but firm. Works like a machine. Looks like he would smell like bacon and cheese but smells like grandads old spice. If he smells BS he will call you on it but he follows up on the exact reasons.
There's a reason why the entire league respects him. In delicate situations like this signing, he's exactly the guy you want on your side to make sure you don't get hosed while his experience would guide you around all the potholes.
Treliving is lucky to have him.

If this 10.2C really is such a big friggin' deal and the Flames are saying it should impact a 7-8 year deal in a meaningful way, then Johnny's side should simply be countering with a 1 year deal, and say they don't want to sign anything else and walk away from the table.

I'm assuming you've recognized that the one thing the Gaudreau saga on this board has lacked is a Kardashian-esque english derailment, so you've created the most ridiculously punctuated sentence you could come up with as bait.
Well played.

Johnny wanting to sign a 1 year deal equates him declaring that he's "bigger than the team"?

I am not sure why anyone would be upset with Gaudreau, he is probably just following his agents advice. Both Gross and BT are trying to get the most for their side, that is how these things go. I believe it will be done before Wednesday, both sides will try and play the other for as much as possible until the last minute. Despite not being on the board all summer I have been reading the forum, some great reads and I definitely missed participating and missed interacting with many of you. It is good to be back.
