I have nothing much to add to this thread other than a question.
When do people usually start putting on the winters? We go to Canmore quite a bit and with the forecast we were thinking of equipping one of out vehicles with Winters pretty soon.
When do most here put on their winters, after halloween or do you all rush after the first snowfall?

Late October, unless it looks really bad earlier.

Just depends on the weather. If the first snow fall is pretty big, I'll go outside and spend the 15 minutes to change the tires. If it melts and the temperature stays above +5 for a few days straight I'll switch back. Repeat as necessary

I have developed a leak on one of my summer tires, so if I'm going to take one off, I'm going to do them all. Perhaps a couple of weeks earlier than planned, but at least it will be out of the way. Thankfully there's a hockey game on the radio tonight!

Changing my tires this weekend. Thanksgiving and Easter are the times I do it, mostly because I have time and people around to help.

Well, just took an hour and threw mine on. We are going to Canmore this weekend, and you never know with the forecast. Could be nothing, could be big. We don't drive the vehicles much, so it's not a biggie if they sit with winters on for extra time. Also, hate doing it in the snow, as I don't have a garage, and it brings back bad memories of my days as a tire jockey/grease monkey.

We did ours about 2 weeks ago, a touch on the early side but we were due for an oil change anyways and I wanted to avoid scheduling another day 2-3 weeks later.

I usually wait until Rememberance Day or so. I know it's snowing right now, but that won't take and we'll be back up to low double digits for a little more in October. I just think putting them on too early really wears them out too fast and they don't really help when the snow doesn't really accumulate until October ends.

If it's 20 degrees? Perhaps, but with the average temperature in October it's not generally that bad to do it early.

Performance tires and Rear Wheel Drive.
Should be a fun drive.

Ditto. Plus changed oil on two cars on top of tire swap in the garage. Took easy 2.5 hours to do for everything and taking my time. I usually wait until first major snowfall forecast, but I'd rather do it this year early while it's a bit warmer and not freezing.

Well be careful. I was out 2 hours ago, and some of the bridges already had snow freezing on them.

So I just checked the 14 day outlook and we are likely not getting above 10 anymore. I seem to remember things being warmer in October, but if that's the case then I might flip them this weekend when I have the extra time.
Am I crazy, or does October never really get into the low teens?

Average temperature starts in the mid teens for October and ends below 10 so it's usually warmer than it is now.

I think the city has a quota, they are out dumping salt on the main roads.

If you don't have AWD, you need winter tires.
Even with AWD, you should have winter tires cause AWD doesn't help with stopping.

AWD does nothing for braking performance all vehicles benefit from winter tires.
