We arrived at this (in part) with your failed attempt to further that erroneous assertion above, then you just got flakey and off topic in your last couple posts. But if you want to circle back and continue with it, by all means.

I can't believe you guys are responding to this dude. Just let him spew whatever nonsense he wants, don't respond. Are we seriously discussing whether the loss of BRETT HULL 30 FRICKEN YEARS AGO means the Flames can't retain star players? Why? Who the fata cares?

Stop responding. He's not going to be banned. Stop feeding him and he will disappear. You are better than this, CP.

But i assume you wont want to cause it wont be available for the forum to see and that just wont do will it.

Spot on. Explains why I can't seem to break the Gio salary ceiling. We're all in trouble indeed.

Man... I'm late to the party, but these Gaudreau threads are turning into a hot mess. My 2 cents... someone should start a News Only thread similar to the CalgaryNext thread. Sifting through the drivel, out of sorts tangents, and emotional highs and lows is severely aggravating, as entertaining as some of the posts are.

Is the franchise moving to Seattle yet? This truly seems like the end. Who wants to split Hitmen season tickets?

Considering the fact your logic was thoroughly defeated on the last page and you had no retort, I think I'll pass.

You and Gaudreauvertime were the ones wasting everyone's time in the last hour with that ridiculous assertion the Flames "history losing star players" makes this present negotiation with Gaudreau a concern. You need to sip that whisky you were talking about and take a break. That was the only good idea you put forth.

There are two choices here for Gaudreauovertime and RoughRiderCowboy:

1) They are both young (so much for the fortune 500 seminars)
2) They are not Flames fans

If they are insinuating that the Flames do not know how to retain star players, and have 'messed up' in the past with some of the great alumni that has played for this team, there simply are no other reasons other than 1 or 2.

As Lanny's the Man pointed out in his rebuttal with exactly how long these star players played for the Flames, let me offer this as a counter point:

Wayne Gretzky - the greatest player to ever play the game - only spent 10 seasons with the Oilers, the first of which was when they were in the WHA.

Mark Messier spent 12 years (so overrated anyways).

Guy Lafleur - 14 with Montreal.

Jagr - 7 seasons only (and he is 3rd overall in points)

Ron Francis - the NHL's 5th all-time leading scorer - played an illustrious 24 year career in the NHL - and never more than 9 seasons with a single team.

Detroit must be an absolute failure too then, since they treated Mr. Hockey so terribly, he went so far as to change leagues!

If you can't understand that players move and RARELY does a player play for a single team, I don't know what to say.

If you are so young as to not know what the 90's meant for Canadian hockey teams - Flames, Oilers and Jets specifically, then that is a different story. Remember, these teams essentially became 'feeder' teams or glorified development teams in a different league altogether since they simply could not afford top-talent. There was no cap, and the richest teams built championship teams by poaching the best players from the poorest teams.

Name other players that stuck around as long as Jarome did on a single team in the modern era. I think you would be hard-pressed to even find players that played that long for any organization in any era. Lidstrom is the exception in the NHL regarding superstars, not the norm, and DEFINITELY not the rule.

For heaven's sake, this guy is so good at pulling all types of fallacies out of his arse. World class superstar troll, let me tell ya. Quckly becoming a legend on these boards. Here I thought HenrikSedin33 was a legend, or Champion with his "5 Giordanos". Gaudreuovertime will be brought up long after he gets banned, for every single contract negotiation lasting beyond the first day of free agency. Just really impressed with his imagination. I thought he was a superstar troll, but I am thinking this kid is generational!

^^^ the only players I can really recall sticking in one spot forever like Jarome are Sakic and Yzerman. You already mentioned Lidstrom.

I guess Chris Phillips hung around Ottawa for his entire career too.

But by and large, yea. Doesn't happen.

Theo Fleury

Who was the last great player to retire a Flame? Lanny?
Brett Hull was traded for players who helped the Flames win their only Stanley Cup. If you have a chance to win a Cup you do it.

Marty St Louis was a nobody when he played for the Flames. Noone ever knew he was going to turn into that great of player. Hindsight is 20/20

Theo Fluery was traded due to the low Canadian dollar and how it hampered Canadian NHL teams in keeping their star players. The same could be said for Al MacInnis.

Seriously, just how old are you?

Are you sayin Ramage and Wamsley won the cup in 89? Ramage was good but Wamsley played about half a game those playoffs, that Calgary team was scary good and it's my opinion Hull would have helped them stay that way.

If it wasn't for the cup win most if not everyone would say it was at least the 2nd worse trade in Flames history

"If it wasn't for the Cup win"...

So otherwise, how'd you enjoy the play Mrs. Lincoln?

No they aren't. Neither were considered star players at the time of their movment out of the organization. Hull was a young player with great potential, but was moved to bring in parts that won us a Stanley Cup. His contract status had dick to do with his movement. St. Louis was let go because our GM "had the best eye for talent" and didn't see a NHL player there. Again, contract issues were not involved here. Suggesting those two were mishandled in some way is complete navel gazing.

I'm not saying anything about the future being a predictor of current events. I'm saying we don't have the greatest history of retaining star players. Like I said, I hope this era is different. But the way they've treated the situation with Johnny makes me doubt he's going to want to be here after this next contract.

The fact that so many posters have turned on him and continue to make disparaging comments about him and his family probably doesn't make the situation any better.

Hull
McInnis
Gilmour
St. Louis

That's a fairly strong list of players that were more or less pushed away. It doesn't mean we will make those same mistakes, but I'm definitely wary. And the current situation doesn't smell right.
